Looking for your Smug Villager Recommendations

Aww Zell is my favorite so its sad that you don't like him, but there are loads of other great smugs to choose from! Here are my favorites:

• Kyle: the rocker hyena; his interior is a garage with drums and other instruments.
• Phil: the very dramatic pheasant; his interior is a normal, slightly posh house.
• Colton: the princely white horse; has a rather regal looking interior
• Ken: the wanna-be ninja rooster; has a traditional japanese interior with lots of tatami
• Marshal: the cute little marshmallow; has a cafe themed interior
• Raymond: the business cat; has an office themed interior
• Jacques: the DJ bird; has a diner themed interior

Julian, the horse who looks like a unicorn. His house is decorated with the gorgeous zodiac furniture, which matches his with his mythical traits.

I might be a little biased towards him because he's my birthday twin.

I clicked on this post with the intention of recommending Zell because I’ll have him in boxes tomorrow only to see that you just had him leave. Lol oh well. Jacques is the only other smug I’ve had. He was pretty nice. Marshal is on my hubby’s island and I love him!!

My recommendation is Kidd. He's purple, his house looks fancy (I surrounded it with the iron and stone fence and looks great!) and I enjoy his fashionista side. Seems like he likes to be on his underwear from time to time but I think that's his fashion statement He's polite and friendly and I love when he uses glasses to read his books~

I personally really like Raymond. I know he's super popular though. My other favorites are Shep, Kyle, Julian, Kidd, Ed, Marshal, and Colton. I think smugs have some of the best designs but I'm just not a huge fan of their dialogue in NH so I've been good with just having one.

I ADORE Colton. He was my bestie in NL and if I ever meet him while island hopping I will not hesitate to invite him. I love his design and he is really underrated imo. I was shocked to see him so low in the ranking because he is simply dashing.
My island currently has Marshal and Raymond living there and they really grew on me, despite all the hate they are getting for being popular and "overrated".

I'm nuts over kyle, honestly...I never played NL so I hadn't experienced the smug personality type before, and kyle was my first camper! instantly fell in love with his chill rocker attitude (gels very well with my own Slightly Aging Punk vibes lol), and over the months he's actually become my favourite villager altogether! I won't allow any other smugs on my island because I want him to keep that unique feeling. I'd say his main charm points are his kind of lazy, spaced-out expressions, his rock aesthetic, and how much he likes to compliment the player lol. I changed his catchphrase to "hot stuff" recently and now he just makes me laugh every time he talks!

also his pocket camp bio reads:

When Kyle offers to walk you home, it's because he's forgotten where he lives. If only houses had a scent he could track!

and that just cracks me up...dude is seriously so out of it he can't even remember where his own house is...gotta love kyle

I use to not be a fan of smug villagers in NL and always thought they were low key mean. I decided to give them a second chance in NH and invited Huck to my island. Luckily I ended up loving Huck so much, he is super cute, plus the fact that the inside of his house looks like a modest straw hut, it makes his persona less "holier than thou" and more relatable.

My vote is for Colton. His prince charming default clothing, hair/eyes, and his home all scream the Smug personality. He comes across as a innocent, pure hearted Prince. The nature hobby actually helps tone down the arrogant side of the personality as you'll often see him run over to water plants or study bugs. He's a sweetie.



Now I'll throw some negatives on some other picks. Not cause I dislike them, but I often go over everyone in my town and who I highly consider and try to figure out who I want. And all these below are ones I have debated on cause I do like them.

Marshal lacks a nose and is super popular already, so you won't exactly be standing out from the crowd. I loved his colors and really wanted a Squirrel, but the lack of nose really annoys me personally.

Julian's eyes are always closed which means you get less interesting facial expressions and his more fab design makes him feel more straight forward arrogant and full of himself than other picks. Plus some hats remove his horn, so he is a fraud.

Kyle (and other punk looking villagers) have a identity clash. Smug personality does not suit him as it comes across more of a feminine male who strikes poses and talks about the umbrellas in their drinks. I love the punk rocker guys, but I feel all of them really could of used a new personality type (Punk? Loner? Rebel?) instead of being really mismatched. Cyd and Static talking like 40-50 year old guys while Kyle and Jacques dance about while striking poses really showcases a lack of a personality for these bad boys. I'm still considering Jacques (friend got Kyle, taking him out of the picture for me), but I have trouble seeing that bird dude talking about being a dancer on a canvas and that his personal mirror is the most important item.

Ken has similar issues as Kyle except replace a rocker acting like a fabulous individual with a serious looking ninja chicken striking poses and talking about his mixed drinks. The exterior of Ken's home is amazing and the three times I have ran into him on Mystery Islands has given me the hard choice of passing him up.

I have Henry and love the little guy, but I'd say he is a tad more boring than these other guys. I actually wanted Drift as my frog, but my forced camper was Henry. So it felt like fate. As did my first blue rose spawning on his birthday felt like the game telling me to keep him.



Those are some of the ones I studied and looked into the most that I have seen suggested that I have looked into myself with interest in them.

Huck looks adorable in that top! For whatever reason, I've taken more of an interest in the frog villagers recently. His house interior reminds me a bit of Coco's. :3

I'm so glad you'll consider him! The smug dialogue now is quite different from NH, so I'm not sure if Colton still is this charming, quirky cutiepie he used to be. I'm in a bit of a pinch myself concerning the smugs because I'd so much love to have Colton around but can't bring myself to say goodbye to Raymond or Marshal. Can I really deal with three smugs on my island? ^^' It means not having space for the other personalities. Until Nintendo softens and hopefully one day gives us a few more slots for villagers I'll always have this problem I guess.

P.S. Now I can't unsee the similarities to Yuga D: it'S true lol... Colton always reminded me of a character in Harvest Moon (Will) whom I married in the game when I still played so Colton felt so nostalgic to me Will also had a white horse.

Julian, Kyle, and Shep are all pretty cool Smug villagers. I've had them all before, and they were super fun to have.

My favorite of these would either be Kyle or Shep. I love Julian, but he's not really my kind of style since he's well.. a unicorn with a space theme.
Kyle and Shep on the other hand, I love more. Kyle has a garage-band esc theme that I love while Shep I get the 'hippie that lives in the woods' type of vibe.
Definitely would recommend any of these sweet bois.
