So in light of the recent Valentine's day event on Pocket Camp, I noticed that it didn't revolve around romance but friendship instead. So I was thinking, what if they incorporate romance into the new AC Switch game? Like, maybe nothing too serious like weddings or dates, but maybe a little flirt feature that unlocks once you've become best friends with someone. I think it'd give more incentive to some people to want to talk with their villagers more and interact with them.
Imagine you can send and/or receive love letters, or maybe buy a special item or a specific flower to give to someone you want to confess your love to~!! It'd be soooo cute!

However, my heart melts thinking about the town villagers gathering together for a wedding! Or maybe you can choose a place to go on a date, like the beach or cafe! Omg I can think of so many ways romance can be incorporated into the game without being a dating simulation or even as a major goal in-game, because if it was too serious I think it'd be a little too much.

I just think it'd be super cute, it would add more gameplay/things to do, and it would be something new and refreshing for the Animal Crossing series!

What do you guys think? And what other ideas can you come up with for how romance/flirting can be incorporated into the game? Let me know!

doesn't really fit into ac, seems more like a tomodachi life thing

I have to second what everyone else said, plus I know this would sound awful for me to say, but wouldn't this technically be zoophilia?

I know it sounds really exaggerated when I explain it, but if it's done right and is only added into the game as a subtle detail in villager behavior, I think it would work well with the world of AC.
Whether it be just between villagers themselves, or the player with other players, I think it would add just that much more charm.

Well of course if you think about it that way! But AC is all about innocence and that's why it could work well if implemented into the game as just a small behavioral change. It's not like AC is some life simulation game, it's just cute little animated characters that you work and develop relationships with.

All the characters are basically meant to be 12 if we're taking the movie as a measure. It's kind of weird to implement this kind of thing when it's essentially a game about a town of child animals. This is one thing in a game like stardew valley where all the characters are adults but its.... very very strange when you put it in animal crossing.

between villagers, sure ! that is cute, but not between the player and the villager. That would be extremely weird

I think the same, it could just be between villagers and other villagers, or players with other players. It obviously wouldn't need to be a super involved process, but I think if it was as simple as just getting a love letter every now and then it'd be a cute little detail to add into a new game.

as much as i love dating sims, I don't really want this as a mechanic an animal crossing.

Obviously thinking about it like that is weird, but really there are legit villagers with facial hair and make comments of being too old! Plus they're moving to new towns and living alone, even paying for their housing and such, so I think the belief that they're suppose to be children only comes about because a lot of us are adults ourselves. I mean when I say "romance" I mean it could just mean a villager having a crush on you or someone else.

Again, I wouldn't want it to involve dating or anything, but if it's just the mechanic of villagers developing crushes, I think it could work.

you're still involving a status bar beyond the usual friendship meter

just keep villager relationships perfectly platonic, imo

I'm just saying it'd be an interesting concept to incorporate into the new game. However they decide to design villagers' behavior.
I mean having a more in-depth relationship meter with villagers and other characters wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, I think if it's done in a way that would keep the originality of AC it'd be perfect.

I would prefer that this is not an option; I am already satisfied with how relationships work in the game.

If they would put such a feature into the game, then you can prepare yourself for some News
channels talking with angry parents blaming Nintendo for supporting zoophilia, as same angry
parents also thought the NPCs in said game would be controlled by strangers and kids playing
the game would talked with these strangers everyday...

I'm not really a fan of this idea, even relationships between just the villagers would be something
I wouldn't like that much, as I don't care for their love lifes to be honest.

Well that could only be said if romance was highly involved in-game, and if that was the case I'd agree it would totally be straying from what AC is and would be taking away from the original AC gameplay. I'm just thinking about ideas of "love" being expanded upon IF it was to be implemented. I mean realistically, I could see just a small bit of dialogue from villagers expressing that they like someone and ask you to help them give their crush a gift or something, and that'd be it, there wouldn't be any dating mechanic involved at all. It'd just be for the sake of giving you a task like in the original game.

I know I feel the same, but WHAT IF they can improve on the villager relationship development? I'm just thinking out loud and interested in what kinds of new features they can add in the new AC game.

Still, I'm not a fan of this idea to be honest, sorry. I would prefer it more if my villagers just ask me
to bring them some fruit, rather then asking me for any "relationships tips". I don't want to be that
guy that is in the middle of a love drama if two villagers starts to have a crush on the same villager
and asking me what to do. If I want to see videogame characters fighting each other for their big
love, I'm gonna play Tomodachi Life. For me, Animal Crossing should be just that game where the
villagers are best friends with each other and nothing more...

That's gonna be a no from me, dog.

I think the relationship mechanic needs to be tweaked so that villagers don't all think you're the best thing since sliced bread from the start and therefore becoming their best friend actually feels rewarding. But it doesn't need to go any further than that. I would be... extremely put off, to say the least, if villagers starting asking me to mediate their romantic lives, or if they started having feelings for my (human) player character.
