Loving Unpopular Species!

It's weird. If I were to list my favorite villager species (Not counting the ones like 'Panda' and 'Yeti' where they use a certain model, but are specially designed), my list would be nothing but unpopular species, except for one being very popular.

2. Hippos
3. Octopus
4. Gorilla
5. Monkey


I really don't get the hate for these species. I personally love their designs. Sure they have their bad ones aside from the Lions, where all of them look great. (For example I am not big on Elise or Harry). Honestly I don't like many of the popular ones. I am a dude and kind of preffer things cool over cute. I personally find some of the villager species to 'cutsey' that they end up comming off as ugly (kind of like Brionnie in Pokemon). Squirrels for example. I like Peanut and the two sisters who are big fans of the Squid Sisters, but that's about it. Marshal in particular is a character in the series I rather dislike. I do like SOME of the popular ones like Cats and Dogs (Ankha and Cherry being my favorite of each). But I guess, I am just weird like that.

Octopus villagers are all pretty popular imo. I agree with you about Lions but overall I can't stand gorillas and monkey villagers. Hippos have some that are okay.

I love the sheep! They don’t get as much love as they should, I think they’re cuties! Willow is my favorite but I also love the sheep with the snaggle tooth: Wendy. And baarbara. Just not Frita tho her fries wool just doesn’t click for me lol

Alligators feel pretty underrated to me. <3
But I do love Rocco (hippo) and Hans (Gorilla Yeti).

The lions faces just look...smashed in to me which is why I think they bother me. Not sure why their faces couldn't be more dimensional like the Tigers/Wolves but with a mane on it.

I think the most unpopular species might be chickens tbh, and I see why... they just aren't nice to look at like in general imo. They don't look cool or cute..

I never really liked the lions, tigers, and bears (oh my) they are just big and awkward looking.

I love the goats, I never saw a ton of love for them until Sherb.

I agree! I’m a woman, but I still tend to prefer the more realistic or fun-looking villagers over the super cutesy ones. My top species would be:

Anteaters
Sheep
Dogs
Mice
Monkeys
Frogs

I love the gorillas, hippos, and rhinos as well, which sadly tend to be despised. They’re so charming!

I love the species diversity in the game in general, though. The elephants are the only species model I dislike (the proportions look super wrong to me), and the ostriches and birds aren’t my favorite either.

If I would go for other unpopular Species People don’t like:

Anteater: They say their Noses look weird. How they wiggle.
Mice: Ears too big and Heads way too big, but tbh, otherwise they would look exactly like hamsters. Also I get that most Mice are really ugly or scary looking. They did most of them really dirty.
Birds: Walking Stick Figures. But some of them are quite interesting

For Chickens, well, I think they are boring looking. Most of them are just plain chickens. Ken has a nice color and Outfit and Plucky is cute. There is also Knox with the Knight Outfit.

Pigs might also be pretty disliked. People normally don’t like Pigs in real life either, so I can understand where this is coming from. Same for Cows. And Monkeys.

Koalas are disliked for their Potato Nose. I don’t know why, because that’s what a Koala Nose looks like.

Kangaroos are disliked, because of the Joeys. And even for the Male ones, they only seem to like Walt. (Poor Rooney)

Horses are also quite disliked, except Julian, only because he’s a Unicorn. I guess Reneigh is also liked.
Don‘t know what’s wrong with Colton or Roscoe.

It’s just that People seem to really dislike Big Animals or rare ones, which have weird facial features. Also they tend to like 1 or 2 of those species, but still say the entire Species is Trash, because the bigger Amount of Villagers of those Species are terrible looking for them. That’s pretty much, why Cats, Dogs, Wolves, Squirrels, Rabbits, Octopi, Cubs, Penguins and Sheep are liked by the majority of People and the Rest gets despised.

But hey, if they don’t like them, then there is more for us. Haha

I love the kangaroos and don't understand why people don't like the Joey's.

That's how a roo carries her young.

They are my native animal, and one of the best designs.

I love the Joey because I've always thought of them as an extra villager.

I also tend to like ostrich villagers a lot.

I actually do like ONE of the Pigs. However he's not in this game. Ganon was an amazing cameo villager in New Leaf. I am so upset he didn't come back for the new game. Hopefully he returns in an update. Also, I don't think the Chickens are that bad. I am not a big fan of any of them except Ken, but the rest I at least like.

I personaly PREFER large villagers over small ones. I like having a varity in sizes, it makes the whole thing feel more diverse and alive.

Penguins and Alligators are in my top 10 actually. If I made a full Top 10 species the other 5 would be:

I love the alligators, they don't seem super popular, and penguins are really adorable.
I'm okay with lions.

I actually don't like wolves very much and I know they're pretty popular.

They are my favourite animals irl. My town will every alligator villager in the game.

there are always exceptions to the rule, but from my experience I don't like chickens, elephants and kangaroos.
Chickens really just look dumb. my exception is Ken. he looks great!
Elephants are just freaking me out. their trunks are way too small for their enormous heads ...
and kangaroos, the eye placement is just wrong ...
