I'm starting to get to the point where I am finding the experience less enjoyable than it could be because I love catching a lot of Pokemon and spending time in each area but after insane almost no-damage sweeps of the first three gyms, how do I keep a team without having to put them in and out of the PC to prevent overleveling? Or avoiding battling all the trainers? Are they going to patch this or do they actually think it's good?

Those of us who enjoyed difficulty would turn exp share off in the last two gens but we can't even do that anymore.

I'm trying not to let it ruin the experience but man, it's really annoying to have to be conscious about it all the time.

I have the same issue, really not loving the whimsical decision to make exp share no longer optional. I?ve been spending a lot less time in wild battles etc than I normally would because I?m getting too overleveled. I miss the grind. :v

I guess I've answered my own question in that using the PC all the time is the only way to replicate not having exp share on but it's harder to really pick a team of 6 and feel attached when I have like 9-10 circulating.

I'm getting the messages in battle that my Pokemon seems sleepy and basically bored lol.

Not meaning for this to be a hater thread because there's a lot I enjoy about the game so far but it's a huge gameplay issue imo.

Avoid grinding I guess. I've so far only bothered catching Pokemon I haven't caught and avoided/ran from the vast majority I have. Currently between on-par - underleveled compared to the trainers I'm up to. Throw your lowest level to the top of the team so they get the majority of exp.

Not the most enjoyable way to play, but at least I'm about equal with the trainers I'm going against. I would much rather prefer turning it off though as I would much rather do the grind. I feel I've missed catching quite a few Pokemon because I've not spent as much time in each area as I usually would through trying to avoid over leveling, so I've definitely missed a few who didn't show up as I ran through.

I went to the fourth gym without even looking at any Pok?mon in the wild area and suddenly the first fight I got into was about 10 levels above me. Still managed to win though, I don't really think you can make difficulty happen during the campaign.

there was one guy who beat the entire game with only a wooloo
I feel like that kinda thing would be cool!

I've been bringing only three Pokemon to the gym and only allowing one healing item since the 4th gym. Unfortunately Opal and Piers were still easy but Bea's Machamp and Gordie's Barbaracle provided close calls with this personal rule in place. Haven't done the 8th gym yet. Game is moving too fast ever since the 5th gym so I'm trying to complete the pokedex with non-mains so I don't overlevel.
