Now that Mario Kart World has officially been announced to be a launch title on the Nintendo Switch 2 I figured it was time to make a proper discussion topic.

Feel free to use this space to share your thoughts and opinions about the game.

Also note that what we currently know about the game so far is rather limited but there is going to be a Mario Kart World direct on April 17th at 9am Eastern Time that will likely give us a lot more information.

I'm watching the Nintendo Treehouse Live right now and this game looks so pretty and fun. I just wanna drive around with a little squad and take pics everywhere. The grinding and wall-riding and boats look fantastic.

I’m buying this game on release, along with the Switch 2. I’m very hyped for this title. I hope we’ll find out more about who’s a playable character. I’m personally hoping for Lemmy.

I haven’t seen him be playable yet especially in early demo versions of the game. If he’s also not in at release I’d be surprised if he wasn’t at least added in some sort of update/dlc later on.

While I don’t main him he did help me 3 star all 200cc cups in deluxe. Lemmy/Babies are best to complete those and I don’t like the babies so Lemmy it was.

seeing some stuff on twitter, my hype for the game has waned a little. enough that i'm not desperate to get it on release. the character selection menu is very unimpressive and bland to me compared to MK8's, and apparently there's no kart combos? which sounds pretty lame, i loved sticking monster truck wheels on the bike, personally. also, i think i saw something about there being one less cup than usual? which is kind of meh. honestly even with the knockout game mode, keeping it at eight wouldn't have been enough for that price tag imo, i think i would've expected an increase rather than the opposite. it is a very pretty game, and i love the alt. outfits for the characters! that was one of my favorite things about tour, and i saw that peach's og biker outfit form MK8 is still in there, so that made me really happy. i will still get this game eventually, just probably not as soon now.

I just wonder how chaotic online mode is going to be with the additional spots. At least we’ll have more opportunities to race for the next TBTWC, which I’m looking forward to if staff decide to include this game.

I watched the Nintendo Treehouse yesterday and will again today. It showcased some of the game. Knockout Tour looks fun and the Grand Prix is interesting how it connects all the courses.

It does look like there's 8 cups from the treehouse, I know another video only showed 7 so maybe that means there's thing to unlock in this game? Also saw the full roster, about 50 characters and a lot of new ones!

I'm definitely looking forward to this game and hoping the pre-orders go well next Wednesday!

I think it looks fun but these Switch 2 game prices are making me more selective so I'll maybe buy it eventually when its discounted.

I'm definitely looking forward to it! The expanded roster of playable characters is definitely wild. Obviously there's TBT's beloved Moo Moo Cow, but then you have the penguin, dolphin, snowman, and even fish bone in addition to a bunch of other new additions??? I don't mind that they ditched the parts system for pre-made vehicles again, since I rarely changed my kart over the course of playing MK7/MK8D, lol. I think the changes to the cups and how you drive to the courses now is pretty interesting. Seeing the footage of the Knockout Tour rallies and how they are continuous from start to finish is exciting to me! I feel like that'll be really chaotic with other people once we have large enough sessions on TBT, lol. I'm really looking forward to free roam and getting to explore the world with friends rather than having to compete against them. It's also nice that the online lobbies allow you to drive around while waiting to start from the looks of it. It'll be interesting to see what else they reveal in the upcoming Direct!

From what they've shown so far, there are 7 cups for the Grand Prix, but 8 rallies for the Knockout Tour!

It will likely be at least a year after release before we end up having MKW sessions in any events that we run, since naturally we understand it'll take awhile for people to buy the Switch 2 and any multiplayer games for it, especially after the pricing reveal. Any staff hosted sessions will be restricted to just Neighborly Games until we think it's appropriate to include them in the events.

Hmm, I watched the direct but not all that closely. I had already decided I wasn’t going to be buying the new system OR any games soon. Once I read the games are going to be priced at $80, it killed it for me. And honestly it isn’t even that it wouldn’t be within my budget, I just balk at paying that much money for a game. We know that they will be offering paid expansions to this game in the future so then it becomes even more pricey. Seeing some of the things you mentioned, like not being able to make kart combos is crazy…especially for an $80 game. Also I’m not a huge multiplayer game kinda player. I prefer to play single or with 1 or 2 players that I know irl. Here’s hoping that some of the things that look like they are missing pre-release is just that they kept some of the info back either to reduce direct length (which was already over an hour) or just for surprise. I saw that about 1 less cup as well but it seemed like the individual ones were actual longer tracks/races? That could have just been the way it was presented. Idk. I guess the only way to buy this game would be in a bundle because if I remember correctly, buying it as a bundle would in effect make the game $50 instead of $80. I guess it’s a wait and see. I do know Nintendo creates some decent bundles for the holidays. Wish I could justify the cost because I loved the look of the updated/udgraded Zelda BOTW and TOF kingdom. I bought both of the recent Switch ones because of the nostalgia I have for the older Nintendo versions. Even those will cost additional money though.

i know some people have been saying removing kart combos is good because it erases the meta and "tryhards", but if the pre-made karts still have stats then meta and tryhards are still going to exist anyway. at that point, it would've just made more sense to remove stats and keep kart combos. sure, not everyone wants to make karts, but iirc it saves your usual combo (at least online, 'cause i just spam A through the kart maker screen) so you only have to do it once if you Really don't like them, and it's at least still an option for people who did like making more specific karts. (like me and my motorbike with monster truck wheels lol.)

and for sure, i was saying to my sister that they're definitely going to add DLC sooner or later, maybe with the other-franchise characters like isabelle, villager and link etc. assuming they're not in the base game. so that just adds insult to injury to the current price tag because based on the pricing of everything else so far, it seems like the DLC might not be all that cheap either...

I’m really intrigued by the open world stuff. Seeing where the courses are in relation to each other is really cool. Something I used to imagine when playing Mario kart Wii for hours on end as a 5yr old lol. To have that actually in the game is so exciting to me.

The character roster!!! The cow?! Snowman?! Penguin? CRAB?! I love it. Not sure about how it actually looks but I can’t wait to race as all these new characters.

I think I’m definitely going to get it eventually (I can’t miss out on Mario kart!) but I’m hoping there will be a switch 2 lite. At the very least I want to wait until there are a few games I want before I get the switch 2. I expect I won’t play this Mario kart for at least a year or so though, which is… gonna be painful 😂

The price is annoying but it won’t stop me getting it, just might delay it

Considering the whole pricing situation for the Switch 2 and the individual games, in combination with the Trump Administration's global tariffs that were implemented on Wednesday afternoon which have thrown the stock market into free fall and the economic system into turmoil, I don't know if or when I might get the Switch 2 itself, much less the game. Switch 2 pre-orders in the US have been postponed and the previously stated price is bound to be increased to account for the tariffs. General cost of living in the US is going to increase as well due to those tariffs and their effects on global business and trade, so a pricey new console might just not be justifiable.

If I do get them eventually, though, Mario Kart World looks fun.

I'm glad that they added the Penguin as a playable character since penguins are my favorite animals and, while I'm not a platforming game person and don't have much mainline Mario experience, I have fond memories of Super Mario 64 with those penguins. The other newly added racers like Moo Moo are cool too.

The alternate costume feature is neat and I loved that refined gentleman King Boo that they showed off, haha.

If it is indeed the case, I'm not sure how I feel about the karts being streamlined and not having miscellaneous kart parts so you can assemble different builds. On one hand it's good for me since I'd rather not have to figure out what all the stats mean and try to balance things and end up having to follow a narrow meta. On the other hand, assembling karts or bikes out of those miscellaneous parts is kind of fun customization. It might've been nice if they kept the parts without the stat stuff tied in, but eh. If it evens things out a bit more then I think it's a good compromise.

Very well said! I was on the fence on the price but I have been saving a bit here and there for exactly this and decided I will pull the trigger on the buy. I planned on pre-ordering the Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World, since I can't ever pass up Mario Kart.

But now that the preorder date has been delayed because of Trump's tariffs, I guess I need to see what happens next. If the price goes up, I will probably have to be content with playing my original Switch for a bit longer, which isn't really that bad since I have a backlog of games to play.

It's still a little worrisome though. I hope the world sorts itself out so we can enjoy a new "world" in Mario.

I'm currently watching the treehouse and whew this game looks GOOD. I might have to buy a new TV cuz my decade old one sure won't be holding up lol.
It looks super fun and I don't mind kart combos being removed. As someone who likes to customize my karts to look good and not necessarily be good in terms of performances, the pre-made ones in MKW look really pretty to me.
I'm kinda sad they removed Kamek as a playable character so soon, they're my favorite Nintendo character and I couldn't even play them once because I never bought the MK8D DLC.
Aside from that, the game looks incredibly fun and the attention to detail is striking! I can't wait to play and have a feel of the game, and I can't wait to explore tracks around!
Watching gameplay really made me feel excited and it awoke something in me that I remember feeling in MK7 or MKWii, I'm just brimming with hype right now!!
I'm just mad that I'll probably not get it on day 1. I'll ask for it in september for my brithday cuz I can't financially buy the bundle on my own.

I'm very looking to buy this game along with the Switch 2 the moment it comes out this June.
My family is aware of how expensive the Switch 2 and the MKW bundle is together, so they're helping out as much as they can so I can have a chance to afford it!

While yes, it's very well known on the forums that Male Villager is my go-to Main on 8DX, I somehow have this feeling that he won't return in this next title. Now obviously, he wasn't shown in the Direct, nor the Treehouse, but it is possible that they're hiding the crossover characters as it's a good chance they're planning something big for them. (Not huge, but big)
So yes, I do see about a 45% chance of them showing up in the MKW direct coming in about 11 days from now, so I'll know the final answer when it comes out. But, if they don't even mention crossover characters at all, then it's a possible chance that they were never planned in the first place, then again there's always DLC, but I don't really see them being DLC of all things. Could be the last resort anyway.

Of course, if my main doesn't make it to MKW at all, then I'll happily main Toadette, Pauline and try out any of the hazard characters to see if I can grow to like them enough.

Don't mind buying MKW for 75 bucks but I don't think I've got a switch online membership that'll add another 20, this is going to be a very expensive launch...

I assume you'll need an online membership to play the 20 player races
