Missions and rewards added to NSO, with AC:NH icons, backgrounds and frames :)

It seems like there will always be AC ones...they just change by the month, based on who has birthdays at a given time. Like...right now, all of the available villagers are for March. (And I don't particularly care for any of them). But, yeah...it seems like the reason the AC ones expire is because they are based on birth month.
If I had to guess...the current Mario icons will probably swap out with other franchises. So...you'll have one set of AC villagers based on the month...and then another set of random Nintendo franchise (currently Mario...could be Pokemon, Zelda, etc. next month?) I'm just guessing here. Hopefully I'm wrong, and they will add other franchises that run concurrently with the others. But I could see it being limited to two at a time, tbh.
Also...it's super frustrating that the new icons are only for the profile with the NSO membership. I use a Japanese account to get exclusives and other things...but I can't use the icons I unlock with my main account, because they don't actually get added to the normal avatar section? That is absurd, tbh. Just put them with the other icons when they are unlocked. Smh. - And for that matter...what do your friends see when you use one of these custom icons? Does it show on their system...or do they see a default icon?

I've been wanting some Fire Emblem user icons for years now, so hopefully they'll finally add some via this method.

It seems like the missions just take time to acknowledge that they have been completed. All I did was merely check my backup log...looked at the games that were already backed up. It didn't say that it was complete right away. But the next time I powered on the system and checked, it said 4/4 missions complete.

- In addition to paying attention to NH datamines, I also pay attention to general Switch datamines, so I’m glad that something’s come out of the hints of greater My Nintendo links, the same way that the last mystery patch of MK8DX hinted at Mario Kart Tour connections that ended up being the Booster Pass
- However, I kinda find it weird that one of the weekly rewards is still only for logging onto the 3DS and Wii U eShops. It’s the Switch’s 5th birthday today, you’re telling me that STILL doesn’t have a reward?
- As for the icons themselves, I had just about the right amount of platinum points left to grab everything… although I’ve ended up having to go to some extremes in order to make sure I’ll have enough for more of them. Like redownloading Pocket Camp, the one Animal Crossing game I have more things bad to say than good.
- However, I can’t say this is going to lead to proper Home Screen themes? The only way I see those happening is if the Switch gets a revision like the New Nintendo 3DS, that has an emphasis on funky designs, given that’s the whole reason those happened in the first place (and even then, the Switch’s hyper-minimal UI is that way to make it run faster and more efficiently, so it’s unlikely even with that in mind)

OK this is pretty cute I am glad we can get more customisation for our accounts. Next I hope we can get backgrounds on the main page like we had on the 3ds unless we are getting that too and I missed it in the article haha

Just checked this out today! I kind of wish this had come out a bit sooner though; I just spent a good chunk of platinum points because they were expiring in January/February. 
I don't really play that many of Nintendo's franchises, so the ACNH stuff is all I'm interested in out of what we've seen so far. If Pokémon options are a possibility down the line, I'd love to see those too though! Especially if they included some PMD themed icons and elements. It's a shame that it doesn't look like you can mix and match elements from different games though, at least not that I could tell? I feel like that also limits the combinations people could come up with. If it were the other way around, I might've even been tempted to get frames and backgrounds from games I don't play, if I just thought they looked nice.
Well, I've done 3/4 of the NSO missions for this week and picked up a few things—most of the AC backgrounds and frames, plus Celia, Skye, Felicity, and Lolly. ^^ I might try and grab a few more villagers before the month is over, too.
It is nice to have something else to throw platinum points at, but I really, really wish the Switch had better and more varied customization options in general. ;; I like making things pretty and relevant to my interests, ahahaha.

My Nintendo has platinum point redemptions for a few mobile games I think, as well as wallpapers, printables, 3DS stuff, and some physical merch! c: I think the ACNH Build-A-Bear sweepstakes also used platinum points for entries, so there might've been some other limited-time event uses for them.

I mean it's a minor thing, but still animal crossing related, and something that it seems like they'll be going through the entire (new horizons, at least) character roster for. which I think plenty of people would enjoy knowing about, if they don't already, as it means they could potentially show off their favorite villager(s) like this. ether now, or down the line when their birthday month rolls around

I'm really glad we get new icons. But a little disappointed that it's locked behind an online subscription. I wanted to used those backgrounds and frames for my Mii.
Also surprised Bob isn't in the first batch.
But regardless, I think it's a nice addition. I want Switch themes next.

They said in the NSO app/announcement that March would focus on Super Mario Odyssey. It looks like the weekly sets will always be from one game per month. (Though I hope they'll be a little more flexible and put BotW and AoC icons together)The audacity of these people to make the second set of icons Mario again...
With Forgotten Land releasing later this month and the anniversary, the next set will likely be Kirby.
