Most cancerous trend rn??

Fortnite. I don't care about the game, I'll happily continue to just not play it, I just hate the community surrounding it. There's so many stories cropping up constantly with idiots being idiots and it does nothing but make gamers look like anti-social inept morons.

I dread anybody at work asking me about gaming because I know a majority of the time it's to do with Fortnite, likely with the question "do you do what this latest moron in the news did, cuz you're a gamer so...?"

Anti-smoking ads in general are usually cringeworthy as hell. They all seem like they were thought of by some lizard people who, in an attempt to try and "become human", they use imagery that's all the rage with the kids nowadays. Ironically, they just give me the urge to smoke more.

I find the anti smoking pictures on packets morbidly hilarious rather than off putting. I'm half tempted to buy a pack just to see what weird imagery they have.

Two recent ones I remember from a friends packets are a man with a giant bullet hole over his junk and a family sat around a TV with one of them just chillin' in a coffin.

An old favourite being one where the focus seemed to be "hey, look at this guys awesome moustache".

They should probably just give up, or at least fire the guy making the warning pictures. I would be shocked to hear anybody like "I stopped smoking because the packet had a picture of a really suave mobster looking kid on it".

Exactly. I understand parents, guardians and teachers telling kids not to smoke because of course it's bad for their health, but once they become old enough to legally buy cigarettes/cigars/vapes/whatever they wanna smoke, they are legally given a choice to smoke or not to smoke. If they still choose to smoke, that's their decision, not the decision of the parents, guardians or teachers, and especially not the decision of the corporations pushing these awful ads.

I sort of agree with you the anti-smoking ads. I do agree these ads are annoying and are kind of weird but don't you believe that these ads could be actually helping someone? Yes it's a person choice on whether or not that they want to smoke but these ads are here to showcase the effects of smoking in their own ways. Yes, their methods are weird and bizarre but if they just showed the same old commercial over and over again, the message will become stale and useless. Cigarettes and other smoking products (that contain nicotine) are known to be addictive and could lead to problems like cancer so why not have ads that let us know about the risks so we don't have to start smoking or could actually try to quit rather than smoking ourselves to death.

My mom, step father, and step brother smoke and I don't like it. I know not to smoke and it's mainly because of the ads. Smoking has gone down in recent years and I believe it's because of these ads appearing everywhere. Weird or not, they are getting their point across somehow and could lead to benefits in other peoples lives. Anyways, I don't think these ads are trends because trends usually fade away after awhile but these ads has been around for years.

I highly doubt anyone has ever thought, after watching one of these bizarre commercials, "Hey, I should quit smoking because this weird commercial with a dabbing guy in a Fortnite bear costume who just threw a cigarette on the ground told me to". That's an exaggeration, but the point I'm trying to make is that these ads don't help a lot of people, if any. I get the message is positive, but if someone starts smoking, no amount of convincing them it's bad was probably ever gonna work. There's already a good chance that they've been told countless amounts of times to stop smoking in their lives, and there's a pretty good chance this moment will not be any different. There's ways to get people off cigarettes and to turn their lives around, but this ain't it.

Here is a .gov source from 2014 stated that "estimated 104,000 Americans quit smoking for good as a result of the 2014 campaign.". link

Just because you don't believe anti-smoking ads/campaigns work doesn't mean they have no effect. These ads are here not to just help people quit but remind people of the dangers of smoking and why we shouldn't do it (even if a friend dares you too). As my college history professor told me, 'In the 80's, you would see about everyone smoking in class but nowadays, you have to stand in the field about 100 feet from the building to smoke". Don't you believe those ads/campaigns could have made some sort of effect for the school to be like this?

People have become more sensitive nowadays, for better or for worse. People were bound to eventually take a problem with people being able to smoke inside public places such as restaurants or schools. Anti-smoking ads have probably had an effect, but never did I once say "get rid of anti-smoking ads because they're pointless". The ads themselves aren't the problem, it's the way the messages are conveyed. Even if the message is conveyed in a generic way, the point of the message isn't to entertain me or make me laugh. If the ad doesn't take itself seriously, then how am I expected to take it seriously?

Do you have any examples of them being non-serious or the ads you are referring too? I haven't come across but have seen some ads with some weird imagery. Ads would become stale overtime if they stay the same tone imo and will lose it message. If the message of these anti-smoking ads still come across while have a non-serious tone, what's the harm really?

Lol, well I find those ads hilarious and yes I wanna buy packs to tape on my wall for some good "horror" in the midnight hours. Also people who hate on people just because they actually smoke. It's most of the time their own choice and even if it's hard to quit you can just politely ask them to not smoke around you or you can just go away. As long as it's legal people will definitely do it. You are not a bad person because you smoke, jfc.

And no I don't believe people quitted that much because of the pictures, they are awfully off-focus and looks like bad computer images from some MS-DOS horror game lmao.

Also yeah I've never heard of that "stan" til you mentioned it above but any that much obsessive fan is creepy.

That one is obviously hilarious, and isn’t going to get its point across, but what about ones like this?

While some anti-smoking ads can be seen as hilarious and therefore not effective, you cannot deny that ones like this are serious and are actually trying to get their point across. Personally, I don’t care if people smoke or not, but it’s hard to deny that some of these ads are actually well-done and based on researched statistics/facts. If they weren’t and didn’t help people who wanted help, these ads probably wouldn’t be around today.

Well, ads like the one you showed me are fine. I have no problem with them. It's the ones that are weird af and can't get the point across I don't like.

This really sums it up, thanks.

Yeah, as long as people don't hate anyone for the actual smoking, that doesn't automatically make you a douche. I know smokers who are perfectly fine; if you don't like being around when they smoke just idk talk to them inside or walk away til they are done? Honestly idc and if anything snus/snuff are even more gross, at least in terms of people stuffing their mouths with it and most brands smell so bad.

Yeah, aside from Black Panther maybe they are totally only computer effects with no story only appealing to fans who must have more anyway.

Also most fashion trends, especially leggings(wtf ppl), and wearing workout bras/pants as regular clothes... And painted/tattooed eyebrows... Sorry no.

Leggings and workout clothes are still clothes though??? Be happy I'm not walking around naked

I personally agree with Sheila, I think that leggings just look really bad, especially when they have crazy designs all over them.

I think tight clothes in general don't look very good, but that's partly because I'm really modest and I disapprove of stuff like tiny v-neck shirts that come down really low and skinny jeans. I'm not stopping anyone from wearing them, I just don't think they look good.

Yeah I mean anyone having tight stuff making their boobs fall out and weird tight leggings/jeans is automatically disqualified from giving people looks if someone looks at them lol. Joke aside yeah I prefer to not show myself off sporty/hoe tight stuff, imo. I do have some tight things, but they are vintage and don't show me off cheap so..

I don't think its fair to call a trend cancerous, since everyone has their own interests and like different things. But there are definitely stupid and dangerous trends that have gone on, e.g. the Tide Pod challenge earlier this year or the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge.

Yeah, well trends we really dislike? Idk it just a word.

Yeah those celeb challenge or trends wtf. Idk if anyone remember that thigh gap **** that was one some years and forever ago but yeah gross.
