Moving villager questions

I have a question about moving new villagers. Last week my first villager moved out, and the plot remained empty. I thought Nook would talk to me about new villagers OR that I had to get new villagers from the Islands, like I had to do the first time to get villagers to move in. But suddenly a new villager moved into the plot like 1 day later..

SO. Now another villager is going to move. Do I need to go to the island asap after the old one is out, that way I can "pick" myself..? Or is it random from now who moves in?

I think you'll get more replies in the New Horizons section. This is the New Leaf section.

But from what I've been reading, if the plot stays open overnight there's a chance for a random villager to move in.

Oh woops I wrote in the wrong place. But all right, I'll try to go to the islands and see if I can get a new villager in myself
