Hi there!
I decided to make this thread because my 3ds isn’t working and I don’t know why.

Basically, it doesn’t charge. Well, it actually does, for a few seconds, but then it stops, and it’s not because of the charger ( i already bought a new one and it still doesn’t work)
I was wondering if anyone could now the reason why this happens or what can i do to fix it. I am desperate bc i just want to play ACNL and i can’t!
Sometimes, after plugging and unplugging the charger a few times, it ended up working but it doesn’t now 😭

I’m so sorry to hear that!!!
The issue might be with the charging port. I had a similar problem with my old 3DS, it would only charge if I twisted the charger a certain way or positioned it just right. That worked for a while, but eventually the charging port thingy broke off completely. I don’t know what you could do to fix it but I wanted to share that it might be the charger port since I had a similar issue.

I'm so sorry to see that your 3DS is going funky on you 😟

My 3DS also doesn't charge when plugged directly into a charger, but I have this little device thing my mam bought ages ago, and basically you plug the charger into it and you sit the console on top of it. I'll add pictures in the box at the end of this. So basically, I can charge it without having to worry about twisting the cable at a certain angle. I don't know where you can buy it though, but it is an official Nintendo item.

You could try bringing it to a tech/phone shop to get the charging port cleaned because it might be dusty, but I doubt it'll do much help since it didn't for me and others I know.

Sorry for the bad lighting, hope you can still see the main point of it.

It's how a got my 3DS, someone threw it away because it was not charging anymore.

The solution was to replace the charging port. I ordered the part from an electronic store selling phones and consoles parts which was cheaper than BestBuy or Amazon. It cost like $3, borrowed a small soldering iron (you need one for electronic) and watched on Youtube and ifixit how to do it. Worked like a new one after that.

thank you sm! they also told me that there’s a charging base ( idk its name) that works!

I remember having to switch to using this when my original 3DS was having problems. It worked fine until the battery started swelling... A new problem for me.

I know Nintendo normally take their items in and evaluate them for repair and then tell you how much it will cost to fix, maybe try contacting the Nintendo of your country?

Ah, they might not be doing repairs for certain consoles in the 3DS family, cause it's discontinued?
But I'd probably be careful when sending them a request to repair anyways, your data may be lost if you decide to go through with it.

Oh no sorry to hear that, maybe as mine was 2013 the save data wasnt as big an issue as it is today, my new leaf was a digital download as i had the poptart style 3ds but i know most titles were mainly physical games, i had a issue where my top screen suddenly turned a cloudy consistency

would love an update if the charging base works! i know that lithium batteries have a shelf life and will eventually need to be replaced, that's one of my biggest fears about electronics with rechargeable batteries 😭 luckily nintendo made it relatively? easy to do.

here's the tutorial from the official website:

they used to sell replacement batteries on their website as well but they stopped doing that :( but you can buy replacements from other places, just make sure it's the correct one for your model
