I have the Galaxy s6, and it's started malfunctioning ever since my sister smashed it on the ground. I think it's on its way out :( And I haven't even had it for a year! To make things worse, it's really my bf's that he was letting me use. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that it is malfunctioning because my sister smashed it, but it didn't completely break on the spot. Would she still be responsible for paying/replacing it? This phone was expensive and I don't have the money to just replace it yet. :( So what am I supposed to do?

If it started acting up after your sister damaged it, then... yes, obviously she's at fault and should be held accountable for the repair/replacement cost. I'm not sure why that's even a question. Just because it didn't break in two or have the screen shatter doesn't mean her actions didn't break the phone.

Well, I was wondering since it's so expensive, it might be unfair for me to ask for a replacement or repair (which is still incredibly expensive) when it is still functioning in a way. She's not super well off, and has three kids to support.. Plus I didn't bring it up right away and we haven't spoken in a while so it might be weird to just come out of the blue asking her to compensate me for damages.. I thought I could just put up with the damages until I can afford to replace it myself, but it's just getting worse and I really need a phone for my job :/ I just feel kind of bad for asking her to do it.

Shes at fault here mostly but also, it can be seen as sort of also your fault for not taking more care of it? I know if it was me , id expect my bf and his brother to pay for something if it was mine and my bf was supposed to be taking care of it y'know?

Maybe talk to your bf about what happened and how it happened and that youre sorry and will try to replace it, if he has insurance on it the most youve gotta pay is 90. Your sister shouldve known better as well, if she cant pay all of it off see if you can pitch in the rest , especially if you really need it

I have the Galaxy S6 as well, covered by Verizon for reference

Ah... yeah. Family always has to make things more complicated, doesn't it? Even when you really want to, you can't stop caring about their own situations...

Well I don't know what you mean by I didn't take better care of it.. I did take care of it. It's just that my sister ripped it out of my hands and smashed it on the ground. My bf is fine with it and doesn't expect me to do anything about it, but I'm mad because my sister tried to destroy a phone that she knew belonged to my bf. We do not have insurance on it, and even if we did, I'm pretty sure insurance only covers wear and tear, and not purposefully smashing it on the ground? And I wouldn't be able to afford that right now anyway. :/

Why did she smash it into the ground in the first place? People shouldn't go try to break things that they don't own.

Uhh long story, but she was mad at me for not wanting her to spoil Breath of the Wild. Apparently it was disrespectful of me not to listen to her spoilers. She did more than just smash my phone, but I won't get into that now.

Yeah, due to the smashing seeming to be on purpose, I'd 100% make her pay for the phone. I don't care how well or not well off she is. If she isn't well off, then she's even more stupid for breaking something that wasn't hers.

Lol, that's a great point. I guess, I just don't feel right for asking. I feel bad and I don't think my family would like that I'm demanding that she compensate me. I'm pretty sure they'll tell me to let it go and then blame me for causing drama. And what if she refuses, then it's just more drama that I don't need. I won't be able to do much if she just tells me no.

I remember your thread about the BOTW incident. She definitely deserves to pay for your phone for smashing it but from what I remember about how she reacted, I'm not so sure how well she'd take it if you asked her to. I'm guessing it will cause a lot more drama...

My thoughts exactly. :/ I don't know how to handle this situation..
