My theory about the cut content

I posted this in another thread, but I think this is worth its own post for discussion reasons. What do all think of this?

TBH, Nintendo might have intentionally cut stuff out so they could add it back in during the Day 1 update. Why? To prevent it from being leaked, and to also have surprises that the reviewers won't be able to see. Nintendo has been having major problems with leaks for their games (dataminers going through the code, others flat out releasing a pirated version of games online and people download it), so I wouldn't be surprised if they started doing stuff to combat that.

I like and hope for this theory to be true, this would really be exciting haha o/ I realize it could also simply be a patch for Easter but *crosses fingers* hoping for the best B)

^ Yeah, at the very least, we know Bunny Day and adding in online capability (the reviewers mentioned the ability to play online isn't even there right now, just local play) are part of the Day 1 update. But is that everything? We don't know.

Would be nice but I doubt it.

I think things were cut because of time constraints and they’re planning to add things back in via updates.

I’ve seen it time and time again with video games these days.

I don't think a whole lot will be put back in with the day 1 update but I do think over time, we will get some content that we are up in arms about.

I think that's very likely. I also think that there is a lot of info that reviewers are not able to show or talk about yet. I read from a reviewer somewhere that the embargo is partially lifted and does not fully lift until launch.

I know many are worried about things, but I'm personally not worried about anything yet. I think most people's worries will be put at ease soon. Nothing can dampen my hype for this game atm, and imo, it's too soon to stress about missing features.

I certainly hope you're right. Not that I'm overly concerned about cut content, but it's disappointing to see that a number of series staples are potentially missing from NH.

Good theory. There is still plenty of stuff the reviewers know though, and are not allowed to discuss due to embargos, so I do agree Nintendo is planning on keeping things a surprise, at least until March 20th. If a day-1 patch is what's needed, that's a possibility.

It was mentioned yesterday that Nintendo was releasing an update for the game on March 19th at 2am CET. This may include some content dataminers missed.

I'm going to lean more on thinking that's not happening.

Though I do expect most of these special NPCs (except maybe the ones that weren't in New Leaf) to be added in over time.

I'm more worried about the gyroids and pitfall seeds. (and of course the limit of 10 villagers) Since those seem a little less likely to get added in an update than the NPCs or new/returning villagers. (which is something I'm fully expecting really) I guess I could see the gyroid items arriving with an expansion pass but the other two I'm not convinced.

I really hope you're right. Even if just for the gyroid's sake. I'm really upset about the possibility of a lack of gyroids in this game. They were so unique to AC and I have such fond memories of messing with them way back in the GC days.

This could also explain why the guide book isn’t available for 2 week after game release. New Leaf guide book was released day of The game.

If Nintendo plans on maintaining the game with new features over the course of its lifetime, we may see new features and items added periodically over the years, like what Mojang does with Minecraft. So if gyroids or pitfalls are missing day 1, there may still be hope.

I didn't realize the guide had a 2 week delay since I decided not to go for it. That really sucks to have to wait for it.

I was thinking about that too.

It's actually more of a 3 week delay as its release date is April 9, 2020

That's a good theory. I admit that I was originally annoyed that there would have to be content updates for this game (like the "expansion pass" they are doing with Pokemon SW/SH), but now I'm thinking maybe it doesn't have to be a bad thing. At first I thought why release a game when its not 100% "complete" and make consumers wait even longer for the entire product, but on the other hand future major updates will extend the game play, and its always exciting to get new content. I guess I'm trying to have a more positive attitude towards it!

For the most part, I think these updates are fine. It will encourage Animal Crossing players to play the game longer term, as you won't be able to see everything day 1, even if you TT. It keeps a fresh feel to it and keeps the active community playing for longer.

The only thing annoying about NH having updates like this is it makes it harder for longterm Video Game Preservation reasons. I put it in caps because it's actually a thing people do with older video games. That's why there's even companies now that make physical copies of some of these digital only indie games, like Limited Run.

But that honestly doesn't affect most gamers. Most gamers still seem to trade in their old console whenever a new one comes out. How many people will trade in their PS4 when the PS5 comes out? A lot. It feels like retro video game players and collectors and preservationists are in a big minority.

This is pretty much exactly what I suspected. Keep in mind, this "datamine" that occurred right now wasn't supposed to happen. It only happened because stores released the game early due to the coronavirus. So what this means is the datamine is based on what is essentially a "review copy" of the game.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Nintendo took out lategame content to stop reviewers (that TTd) from spoiling lategame content in their reviews. I suggest people wait until tonight's update before jumping to conclusions.

Nintendo specifically ordered reviewers not to disclose anything past like 2-3 weeks of gameplay. So there is something past 3 weeks we don't know about yet. Though you're probably correct that the data miners have an incomplete/review copy.

Yes, but if you TTd past that point to unlock shop upgrades and additional content, you'd basically not be able to show anything. As "technically" your town in its current state shouldn't exist.
