Name change under somewhat special circumstances?

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there's any other way to change your username other than to earn 1200 Bells. I unfortunately do not have much free time anymore so I do not frequent TBT as much as I would like to.

The username I currently have is one heavily associated with my ex whom I have bad memories with. Although I can tolerate it, I would really rather not.

I've been reading up on ways to change it but it appears I missed the 2 year anniversary to collect 10 seashells... or did I? (IDK, please let me know if that's still somehow redeemable. )

Please let me know if there's other ways, thank you.

I think we get seashells every 2 years? I didn't get any last year but I'm probably going to wait until 2020 to collect them again.

I thought it was just a one-time thing though, with some people having 20 due to some bug or whatever

i think i read somewhere here on the information thread that you get 10 seashells and no more. idk though... this 20 seashells rumor had to come from somewhere haha

yeah i saw that a couple days ago and was wondering how they had more seashells! its very intriguing...

The seashell system was introduced on May 7, 2016. Anyone who joined after that was given 10 seashells upon registration, and everyone that joined between October 2015-May 2016 was also given 10 seashells because that was the period between the disabling of welcome bells and the introduction of the seashell system.

In March 2018, the staff distributed seashells to everyone who had been a member for two or more years, and after that, seashells started being automatically distributed when you reached two years on TBT. By that logic, anyone who joined between October 2015 and July 2017 will have received 20 seashells (10 welcome seashells + 10 2-year anniversary seashells)

However, there are people on the currency list with 20 seashells that joined in 2013 and 2014. That is a true mystery...
