I think naughty actions being free and nice actions costing something is a good representation of real life. What's right isn't always what's easy. And giving isn't giving unless you actually give something. Heroes often make sacrifices; that's frequently what makes them heroes in the first place. I'm happy to spend bells to do good.

And the cost for being naughty is the toll it takes on your conscience.

I agree with you on this. Although being mean has a karmic cost, being nice has a monetary or opportunity cost.
