I wanted to start a blog about my 3DS gaming experiences and I searched up 'good blogging sites.' I saw Tumblr on that list and went, hmm...

is Tumblr even that good? I already have a Wordpress account but it was a lot more complicated than I originally thought it would be to create a simple journal of my favorite games. Tumblr seemed much more user-friendly but I've seen stories where people have had bad experiences with the community involved in it.

I'm not particularly biased with this site so if you know what I should use, just let me know.

There’s definitely parts of the tumblr community that are godawful, but from my experience the animal crossing community on there seems pretty nice. I don’t have experience in regards to other communities though

And tumblr is very easy to use, although I don’t get that in depth with it I just follow blogs and like posts lol

Most of the blogs I tend to read/look at are either on Tumblr (one of my favorite AC bloggers/artists is on there actually) or through WordPress. If you're going to be creating a gaming blog with a lot of photos I would definitely use Tumblr.

The animal crossing community on tumblr that I've seen so far is amazing. I had been contemplating whether I should make one too, and it was a great decision. Go for it :)

tumblr is its own, weird little site. lots of bizarre humor. i have one and i enjoy it because it's the one place i don't worry about what i post, and can find things that interest me and get the source content (lots of art or posts seen on instagram or other sharing sites typically come from tumblr). there are some corners of the site that are like,, yikes. to put it simply some people are just bat**** crazy lmao. but again its the internet and you can find the same bat**** crazy people on reddit or in youtube comments. it really depends on the type of people you follow. if you follow only animal crossing blogs or something you'd probably have a great time without any sort of discourse or drama. honestly an entire academic essay could be written on the culture of this site.

tumblr's main feature is being able to "reblog" posts, similarly to how you can retweet on twitter. it can be used as a "journal" if you want to, and it'd be easy for others to see and share it. i guess it depends on what you're looking for when it comes to journaling your experiences.

it's pretty user friendly and less of creating a website than it is just a blog and posting/reblogging stuff. it might take a bit to get used to it but it's okay. if you want the best experience, i suggest you download the extension new-xkit. that way it can be even more accessible to you.

the only other thing is that the staff of the website is just like.. kind of problematic? like they come out with some weird new update that nobody asked for and don't really listen to what the users are saying very much. i guess other sites can be like that too, though. then there's a surplus of spam/porn bots that might follow you for no reason, i usually see them on my followers page and block them.

even though there's a bunch of problematic things about the site i still enjoy using it, much more than instagram. i also don't have to worry about presenting myself a certain way because it's the only outlet i have that isn't censored in some way (because the people that follow me ik irl are very limited, which i prefer, and i feel more free posting just about whatever. it's a common outlet for mental illness (which brings about more problems i wont get into) so i feel comfortable posting things. idk its hard for me to explain). it can also bring people with similar interests together - i met two of my very close friends on tumblr like almost two years ago, and i still talk to them on a daily basis. everyone's experience is different depending on how you use the website honestly.

If you're just using to make a blog that you're sharing elsewhere it'd be great but the community can get kind of toxic.

go ahead lol. most nintendo parts of tumblr arent as Tumblr as a bunch of other tumblr communities.
tumblr is really easy to use and it's easy to install themes and stuff so yay

it really is not that wonderful imo but it's a big community so not everyone sucks lol :I

Can't speak for the "toxic" part of tumblr since I never experienced it. I was part of a small community of really chill comic artists and illustrators but after a while I got tired of my work being reblogged with no credit so I left. I also liked to write a lot and I didn't like the format for longer word posts + pics (or maybe I just didn't know how to use it properly lmao). I prefer having having a blog like wordpress or blogspot for things like "daily ACNL life" because it feels more like a journal to me. But I do that for myself and I don't care if anyone reads it, whereas tumblr is easier for information to spread through tags and such, so it's pretty easy to find and get involved with similar communities.

I think tumblr is fun and all (sometimes it can be an endless stream of crap) but just remember to respect people's work and give credit when it's due, especially when reblogging artwork or fan art.

Yes, you should. Tumblr is amazing for gaming blogs. It'll be hard to gain traction, though, depending on what you post. :/ Either way, go for it! Just avoid the bad parts.

I've been on tumblr since 2010 and I personally haven't had any problems with anyone that I didn't actually know in real life (I was harassed by an ex-friend but that was like, a "real life" thing and not specifically a "tumblr" thing). If you're just blogging about AC, I don't think you should have a problem? Tumblr does have some problematic people on it, but so does every social media site. The thing I like about tumblr is that your experience is basically what you make of it--if you don't like the things that you see on your dashboard, it's as easy as unfollowing whoever is posting that content, the same as with twitter or pages on facebook. Also if someone is bothering you you can block them, and if you're really worried about people being turds I would suggest turning off the option for people to leave you anonymous messages because it cuts down on trolls. Most of them aren't brave enough to leave hateful messages with their url attached so people can see what a jerk they are.

But like I said, I've been on the site 7 years and I haven't had any trouble, you just have to be careful what blogs you follow and don't feel bad about unfollowing or blocking content you don't want to see.

Tumblr is pretty great in the AC community, from the experiences I have.
Don't let the people mentioning 'toxic' things scare you away. There are toxic people on pretty much every place on the internet.
The best way to get followers on tumblr though is to post original content, make use of the tagging system, reblog people and send people asks.

Yeah, the AC community on there is nice. It's also a great place to find inspiration for your house/town layout!
You can customize your Tumblr to look however you'd like as well. Plus it's free.

^ agreed, I've gotten so much inspo from my town on there.

I also forgot to mention, since tumblr is pretty much a free for all to post anything, there are a lot of posts about hacking your town and posts with hacked towns, so if you're against that, it's just something to be aware of.

Tumblr is something I used to be really into. I was a daily user for awhile. On the one hand, it can be fun and very addicting. On the downside the website itself's functionality is kind of terrible and the community can be quite the toxic hive-mind.

There;s positives and negatives and you just have to decide if it's for you or not
