I'm new to animal crossing and I always have a hard time keeping a town. I enjoy the game but I don't know what I'm looking for and I'm scared if I don't get a town of my dreamies I'll never get them. I'm becoming more accepting of a lot of low tier animals and like a lot of them now.
Just ignore the tiers and villager popularity, they're nothing really to do with the game. You're not going to unlock more things or enjoy it more because you have tier 1 villagers - it's just a rating constructed by their popularity on this website.
Just see which villagers move in and see which ones YOU like, not which ones are most popular. A lot of my favourite villagers are tier 4/5 and it doesn't bother me that other people don't like them as much.
Just go with it and try not to stress about dreamies
Villager popularity doesnt mean much. Some of my favorite villagers are Tier 5 ones (Nate and Nibbles) and my moms absolute favourite is Peggy. When I first started getting into the forums, that list made me stress so much. I think its's more fun to just ignore that and only use it if you're looking to sell a villager.
I think a good thing to do is figure out how you want your town to look like (paths and villager location) but, if you're stressing, don't be too nitpicky. I've got a generic path and I let villagers move in wherever they wish as long as its along the path and not squishing something. I've only ever done a plot reset once or twice.
But yeah, play how you want to play. There's no one way to play and thats the beauty of it!

Also, I wanted to include that I don't even have dreamies. One of the things I love about the game is constantly being surprised by what adorable villagers exists and that means random move ins~
I think the best thing to do is forget about who's popular and just accept whoever moves in. I've found several of my best friends that way! Someone you don't like will move in, but they'll eventually leave, so don't let it ruin your game.
Well some like beardo and wart jr I couldn't handle move in. In finding that some of the most unpopular are the most charming. I adore Olaf, lucha and Phil but not many people do. I also like static a lot more then Marshall but for a cranky I prefer Bruce, roscoe or cyrano. I like most girl villagers that aren't truffles.
I plan on making my town colorful and pretty. I guess my ocd makes me obessed over everything.
I agree with what everyone else says. Don't even worry about the tier system. Do what you want and like who you like. At least half my villagers are tier one, but I only have them in my town because I think they're the cutest things in the world! You wouldn't catch me having someone like Zucker or Julian in my town. I hate Zucker x.x
Honestly? I wouldn't even have looked at other villagers when you started. You'll end up being unhappy with some of the villagers you have and that'll make the game less fun for you. I happen to have Beardo in town. Was I happy to see him? Not really. He's not my favourite design. But now that big blue bear is the sweetest villager I have in town.
like the other users said, don't worry about the tier system. choose on what you like design-wise and how long you've been with them. admittedly some of my dreamies are high tier, but the reason why i want them is because i find some of them cute. but there are many tier 4/5 villagers i love as well. it's easy to see tier 1/2 villagers as a status symbol of sorts, but you'd be surprised by how many people here who adore certain tier 4/5 villagers.
also, don't worry too much about ac:nl players either. it's hard getting settled in a new community, but don't feel as if everybody will hate you. if you want to feel welcomed, you got to join in conversations with people, such as helping them find a missing piece to their furniture set or giving them free perfect fruit. admittedly i still feel nervous around here, but i do know that my experiences on the forums have been pretty pleasant so far.
on an semi-related note, i'm glad to find another user who happens to love olaf. lol
aw you're having bad experiences with players? in what way? that's why the wifi rating on this forum is such a great thing. that way, it's easy to tell who to be weary of and who you can trust.
just like with every other game, there's going to be players that aren't nice or pleasant to be around/play with, but there's just as many good players as there are bad. don't worry too much about it, imo, and give it some more time and you'll really start to enjoy the players and game.
