New Years Day (slight spoiler)

So I thought when I would boot up the game this morning everything would be normal again, no festivities anymore. I already saw Kicks on the plaza at my opening screen, so business as usual.

But to my delightful suprise it turned out there is a NY morning after tune it's so cute! I haven't always been the biggest fan of NH soundtrack, but this one they hit right on the mark!
It perfectly embodies the vibe you have if you wake up early after a later NY night

So cozy!
I also just took my traditional new years dive (it's a tradition in the Netherlands at least, I don't know about other countries?) in the sea in ac, and the soundtrack complentented it really nice!

that's cute! as much as I enjoy the regular soundtrack for NH I love hearing the extra tunes, like last night's one just prior to the countdown

The tune lasts the whole day I think? At least, I remember hearing it in the evening as well. It's so so good... hearing it made me tear up a little as cheesy as that sounds. It made me feel really grateful for having this game and community to help me through a tough year. It really is the "we made it through 2020 song" haha. I had it play on repeat for most of the day today even when I was off my island. It's my new favourite song from ACNH's soundtrack!

The music is nice. But I'm sooooo disapointed that it seems to be a normal day for every villager Nobody speaks about last night or about the new year.

And no need to say that, as always in this game, we don't receive any letter except from Mom...

And of course the seasonal items have to be purchased in the Nook Shopping app...

I would have liked at least a letter from Isabelle or Nook with the zodiacal item in it...

I was disapointed at the beginning too but when you talk to your villager longer, they will talk about the first day of the year but I have to insist a long time before they speak about it ^^. I did not receive my letter from mom but sometimes it happens and I know I will receive it later.

I love the new music! I was hoping it was going to be a new one that would be played in rotation from here on out.
The first villager i talked to was Audie and she told me happy New Year and something else, but when i talked to everyone else it was business as usual.

Oh my yes the music last night was amazing. I loved the way it kept changing as it got closer to the countdown. It was exciting and I loved it so much. I was really expecting today to just be a regular day so it was a really nice surprise to hear a kind of “morning after” tune today. It really has a low-key vibe that he’s perfect for the day after a big party. What a nice touch.

The animals do talk about New Year’s Day. They say happy new year and say some thing about 2021 but it may not be consistent so don’t give up if you don’t hear anything special from them in terms of dialogue.

I am excited about all the new things I can order for New Year’s Day! One of the wonderful features about New Horizons is that they are no longer regionally locked items. So even though I don’t use those items that are associated with New Year’s Day in Japan, etc, I still get to enjoy them in the game without having to go through a whole bunch of hunting and trading with people from other regions — so that’s really a good improvement.

i noticed the new music, too, and honestly really enjoyed it! definitely put a bit of a smile on my face as i did my dailies aha. while i actually really like new horizons’ soundtrack, the new year’s eve and day music was just *chefs kiss*. :’^)

I'm not a big fan of the game's OST, but I definitely don't like it when the regular music changes for all or most of the day. Days like today (1/1), bunny day, fishing/bug competitions to name a few. New Years Eve did it right. It played normal music and switched later in the night for the party. I'll add an exception for Toy Day

The song today was okay when I first got on, but as I returned throughout the day, I got really sick of hearing it. I missed some of my favorites like 5pm and 12am.

I really liked New Year’s Day music, especially the early morning music. It was nice to have a change. Separate issue - I really wish there was a way to turn off the music and still hear the sound effects. I can’t believe this game doesn’t have that option!

I agree! Sometimes I just want to listen to the wind blowing and have a really low-key experience. Particularly the 5pm regular music calls so much attention to itself, it gets under my skin after a while.

It was so nice. Most of the tracks in NH that I like play after midnight and I just can't stay up that long anymore. It'd be nice to have more variety in music or the option to switch tracks, but I don't think that can happen (I read another discussion somewhere about why things like adding the NL soundtrack is impossible). I hope we get more daily treats like this though.

omg! I wasn’t really paying attention when I was playing the other day and didn’t realise it was a new track! Now I’m gonna have to YouTube it to add it to my playlist - it was really cute but for some reason I just thought it was like the track that plays when it snows haha.
