Leave out the - (dashes/negative/minus signs) because nobody wants to type that. Thebelltree is fine, you don't need to seperate words in a URL.
 
I even tried to make a deal with the owner of belltree.com... that would have been gold. By that I not only mean it would be a good domain for TBT, but that it would be a valuable domain on its own. But he wasn't interested in selling it. (even if he was there's no way I'd be able to afford it)

Nooo! stick to a .com domain. .net and .org ones are crap. They don't show up in google or anything.
