Nintendo confirms save back up feature for Switch Online Users

i figured they wouldnt just leave it to nothing. animal crossing files r pretty importante

Hmm, Google translated that portion to:

[Postscript on Feb. 6, 2020] This software does not support "Save Data Storage" of Nintendo Switch Online, but in case of failure, loss or theft of the Nintendo Switch body, in the original form of this software We are considering a function to back up save data. Use of this function is limited to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Correspondence time is undecided. We will notify you as soon as the time is decided..

I'm unsure if actually utilizing backup save data would be absolutely dependent on something drastic happening, such as loss, theft, or failure of the Nintendo Switch console, but I am strongly hoping that will not be the case. For any reason we choose, we should be able to transfer our save data between consoles.

could it be the risk of item duping involved in the decision to avoid cloud saves? because trade is a huge part of the animal crossing market, my guess for why this is so difficult for them to figure out is because save transfer brings up a ton of red flags potential for easy mass item dupes and other exploits.

To not lose possibly years of hard work is a good enough reason, and because game backup should be a given.

Why do we have to start petitions and practically beg for a feature that should already be available. :-/

Possibly, but like anything else, hackers would inevitably find a way.

Personally, I feel uploading save data to the cloud (and only being able to use data on one console at once) should be an option for us. As disappointing as not having that would be, I'd be fine. However, what I think is unacceptable is not even allowing us to transfer data between consoles.

We still don't have a lot of clarification on all of this, but I do think now is the time to raise concerns over even the possibility of things going the wrong route, as Nintendo tends to mess up how it handles online/save functionality often. I am really hoping they will ensure AC:NH save data will transfer over during a complete system transfer (at the very least) along with our other game save data.

At least it's good to know there's some of other way to back up your data - I've always been kinda disappointed that cloud saving is not a feature for the games that need it the most (other than NH, there's Pokemon ect.)

And I think it will be transferred along with a full system transfer, it's just transferring it by itself (which honestly should be allowed too)

I've seen many games (not on Switch) that have their own in-built cloud save functionality so you can transfer between systems. By allowing the game to manage it from within, the devs would have more control over when things are backed up to the cloud (thus avoiding item duplication or other manipulations).

And I think it will be transferred along with a full system transfer, it's just transferring it by itself (which honestly should be allowed too)

There's no such thing on Switch. You can only transfer one profile at a time. I wonder if Nintendo will fix this oversight now that AC has laid it bare.

What do you mean? It's literally what Nintendo has confirmed.

"Nintendo confirms save back up feature for Switch Online Users" - implies the feature to backup saves has been confirmed.

Compare that to this one.

"Nintendo confirms no save back up feature for Switch Online Users" - implies there will be no feature to backup saves.

Clever wording of titles can be considered clickbait. Even if they are true.

Did you read the OP?

We are planning to have a save backup function for this software, available to Nintendo Switch Online users. Schedule of this feature is unconfirmed. We will keep you update.

Sounds interesting. Guess the complaints of the fans had some kind of effect on Nintendo that they now bother to work something out.

So basically they're saying pony up for online or you're out in the cold.

I'll take my chances.

< $2 a month. Cheaper with friends/family plan. Most people probably spend close to a year's subscription per week on just Starbucks :p

Will add, you need NSO for Cloud Saves anyway. Not sure why some are making a fuss about paying when you literally have to pay for online to even use the normal cloud saves.

Unless you don't play online to begin with. It's an unnecessary feature for me, so I stand by my statement - I'll take my chances.

I wonder how this online membership backup feature will even work. I don't think I'd pay for online for the Switch every single year. I would probably only pay for a year or two - whatever length of time for me to trade items with other people that I can't get in my own copy of the game and to enjoy online features. If I stopped paying for online, would I still be able to access my game later? Or would I have to start paying for online again temporarily?

I'm sure they'll address this eventually, but I'm curious.

Playing with people from all over the world including those on this site, or being able to recover all the hard work thats lost if it ever is, is an unnecessary feature?
