Nintendo switch "online"

Now I wonder how people would have react it if it was N64 or GameCube games instead
of those NES games. I mean, nothing against the NES, but for me, it's not really something
special, as I'm not really that interest to play these games...

Well, since I don't have any other options, I guess if I will get a Switch, then I'm going to
get that subscription for one year, since I really would like to play online, even if I have to
pay for it (I already missed way too many Splatfests for example because I didn't had a
Switch...).

I assume they'll release snes, n64 and gamecube games later on. But seeing how they are only releasing 3 NES games a month.. it'll feel painfully slow to finish up the NES library before reaching SNES games.

I have a feeling the NES games are a "freebie" for the online service, and games from other consoles will have their own app and their own subscriptions, hence the "My Subscriptions" section in the eShop.

I highly doubt Nintendo is willing to give us libraries from all their consoles for $20 a year. That's probably one of the reasons the price is so low, because each console app you subscribe to will add on to it.

It seems like all we're paying for atm are NES games, everything else isn't worth anything. The phone app no one will be using, and the peer to peer servers for online are both free. I'm really not satisfied with this service, basically being forced to pay to play NES games I'll get tired of after a week.

Yeah, idk ain't those NES games for rent only as well, like wtf I can just get them my own other ways too sigh. But yeah as someone pointed out in another thread Nintenthots do as they wish and don't care about criticism.

I remember when NES games came to the 3DS via the Ambassador's Program. I was pretty excited for them back then. However, that excitement was stopped rather short when I realized how simplistic and frustrating so many NES games are to actually play, including some of the big classics that Nintendo loves to throw around. I mean, for one, saving mechanisms were pretty much non-existent. And most of these games? They're just mini-games.

People talk about how N64/PS1 era games have not aged well at all, but then prop up NES games. I don't get it one bit. Sure the graphics in those games didn't age very well for the most part, but the gameplay in them, the ability to save, etc., it all beats out NES games by a longshot. And anyone who thinks that NES games have not aged graphically are so blinded by nostalgia I don't even know where to start.

Okay, that was an unrelated rant. Just something I've been seeing a lot lately. People really talking down on the PS1/N64 generation.... Saying that those games are only propped up by nostalgia and that will fade soon... When that is exactly what happened to me with NES games.

^Yeah the save ability was pretty.... uh dumb in those old NES game, you wonder sometimes. Sure, on VC versions or on the Classic you I can I guess but yeah honestly why do they have to release NES games over and over? .-.

I have no problem with them releasing NES games on each system. I just think that they should be understood as the 'basic' rereleases and should not be made a big deal about. Nintendo hinging their online service on NES games is a big example of how not to do this. NES games are not special anymore, Nintendo.

Nintendo could have released GCN titles with the service instead and the hype would have been through the roof, even though their online service would still be bad and 'rental' services are not the best. But instead they go with NES games, expecting everyone to be so happy. They're so out of touch.

They don't put in the effort, they don't get my money.

Yeah, what I meant they hide it behind pay to play online and just release them for "rent", from what I understood. Yeah GCN games or even old Wii would even be more cool to release on a virtual console, but yeah not cool using them as an excuse to rob people off money and force them use a crappy online service.

And yeah NES is getting boring, like it's not gonna make people buy it like that when they can get it by 98 other ways lol.

this. I've wanted gamecube titles on the virtual store since the wii. I'll probably still end up buying a subscription though because I'll want to play AC online.

The only reason I have the online subscription is because my sister decided to get the family plan and sent me an invite.

I have yet to use it, and doubt I will until AC is released.

I'm fine with it. They've warned us for over a year. And it's only 28 dollars a year (for me, dang taxes..) and I can afford that. My only issue with it is we're technically paying for peer-to-peer services and not dedicated servers.

It's not a problem to me at all tbh. Even if it's just NES games (for now) it's still gonna be worth it for many who have never played them and the price is quite good compared to Sony and Microsoft's for their systems.

Keep in mind that comparing Nintendo's online services to Sony and Microsoft's is like apples and oranges. They offer a lot more for their prices compared Nintendo's service. And what Nintendo does currently offer that is relative to their services isn't that great.

Yeah. Not that I'd pay for either one company's services but yeah Nintendo you gotta step up or step down here.

This is pretty much my only quibble. Fair enough if they were hosting hundreds of dedicated servers, but I'll bet they'll still shut down any dedicated servers after a few years too, once the numbers start to die off for the older games, even though they are getting paid for. I mean, I can't say the thought of getting to download a few old NES games really makes me feel more inclined to pay for a subscription either, but if there was an actual point besides lining Nintendo's pockets even more just to be able to access peer-to-peer, then I'd consider them a nice bonus. I guess Nintendo as always don't seem to realise it's not still 2008.

Pls look up the difference between peer to peer and dedicated servers bc dedicated servers won't rly help with better netplay for Nintendo's games. If you're having lots of disconnects it's either the wonky netcode (not the fact that it's peer to peer) or you just need to fix your internet connection! I bought a new router after having lots of issues on Splatoon 2 and since then all problems have disappeared! People in my matches still disconnect but that's THEIR internet, a dedicated server isn't going to change that...
