Non-tool DIY recipes for the second character?

I'm sure everyone knows by now/is in a similar boat of "we have one Switch console and are very unlikely to buy another anytime soon given circumstances". One island per console, and only the primary character can set villager houses/building locations.

That's all fine, I've already figured that out.

I'm wondering if there's a way for the secondary player characters to unlock the furniture DIY recipes - they seem tied to the initial building unlocks that only the main character can do, and Timmy & Tommy only seem to sell the tools + a DIY pack for basic wooden furniture. Is there any way for the secondary characters to unlock those recipes later, or am I just out of luck?

I was able to obtain the ladder at Nook's once the main player did; just not the furniture item recipes. There's only a basic furniture recipe set for ~2k bells.
