Now I remember why I sort of dislike restarting an Animal Crossing game...

And that would be resetting for a suitable layout, ugh. The smallest details you need to make some of your ideas work out really don't like showing up much!

I'm determined, though. I'll find this island sooner or later.

Ugh yes! I've been thinking about restarting on a new Switch for the heck of it but if I'm still the same way I was when I was doing that in ACNL, I'll never find one that I like Dx

Guess its just the curse of people who enjoy designing things instead of just going with the flow. XD

this is definitely a fear I have if I ever reset (or more realistically, when)! in NL I really got sucked into resetting and I spent *hours* resetting to find a map with all my specific requirements. I'm hoping that with the flexibility we have now with terraforming I wouldn't be as bad, but I'm almost afraid to find out what I'd decide to have problems with

This! I just reset my island because after around 200 hours I realized I didn't like the position of the residents services 😭. I never know what I'm going to do when I start a new island so I'm not super picky about maps, but it usually comes back to bite me in the 🍑

When I deleted my island, I set up the rules for myself of:
yellow airport
RS having room on either side for other buildings
RS being pretty far back from the airport but not in the middle of the island
water outlets being WS
my peninsula being on the left side on the front half of my island
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
I was hoping for small unusable rocks and large flat usable rocks but willing to let it slide.
I preferred my RS close to lining up with my airport but this wasn't a requirement as long as the airport was on the left side of RS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Long dock and a little pushed back, willing to let it slide.
Preferred pears as native fruit but not really caring.
I reset for like an hour and a half or hour and 45 min and got all of this except the dock and pears. I ended up with a short dock at the front of my island and peaches as my native fruit. my RS and airport does line up close enough for me.
It is tedious when you have to reinput your information over and over and how some of the 4 map choices are nothing but two southern water outlets. I wish they had a refresh button when it got to the map layout choices. I wish you luck on getting what you want.
Aside from picking the right map, now you must complete the slow start. In Wild world, I always fretted restarting because it meant working for Tom Nook for about 30 minutes before you were allowed to do anything... Restarting now means working for Tom Nook for about 7 days until you get resident services. Plus, the airport is not even open until day 2. The scripted prologue (before the game syncs to real time) is pretty fun, but afterwards, things get slow and grindy. Building furniture for the first 3 houses is just the worst.
I'm sorry to hear about your short dock. I guess we can't all be blessed with long ones.
I actually like the 'slow' start, gives me a sense of progression and doing all of Nook's stuff gives me a reason to actually go out and do things for the day.
I don’t know how you do it. The thought of restarting my game at this point would want to make me quit. I created a new character for the island the other day, and having to go through all the new player tasks is unbearable for me.
I had caught all the fish and insects, I was only a month away from completing the sea creatures, I had everything paid off and enough Bells to do pretty much anything I wanted to do on a whim. After changing my island's design so many times, I've run out of ideas with what I could do with what I was presented with.
Beside playing a little daily, or just trying to find DIYs I was missing, and having to wait for random NPCs to complete things or get DIYs, I honestly just ran out of stuff to do. I ended up coming to the conclusion that a new island would probably benefit me, so I decided to restart for 2021.
Oh that makes sense. I still have so much to do in mine. Once I finish decorating the whole island, I still have the houses. And once I do the houses I have everything else. DIY, museum, etc.
Hah, yeah. I actually just found a layout I really like.. but now I'm just sitting here trying to think of a name, lol.
I'm grateful for the slow start, otherwise I'd play 22 hours per day to get everything unlocked LOL
You won’t be keeping the same name? For some reason I always remember your island name. I don’t remember a lot of the islands from other members 😅
Wanted to try something different. XD
Honestly, completely forgot I needed to name the new island, now I'm just sitting here on the name prompt thinking to myself, 'dang, I did not think this through..."
