Does it have to be someone in the same time zone if you bring your turnips elsewhere? Because I think I recall one time visiting another town in a different time zone in which the game mistakenly believed I was time traveling. As I'm aware of the game's mechanic of spoiling turnips during time travel, I feel I should probably ask.

For reference, I live in the American Eastern time zone.

No, it doesn't! I live in PST, and I've gone to other towns in different time zones to sell my turnips with no problems whatsoever.

Same xD Every Sunday my locker is emptied onto the ground outside the station to make room xD I'll put it all back on Thursday when I'm off uni, then take it out again x3x I need to sort my house out and just sell everything re-orderable xD
