Old Accounts & Name Change

Does TBT delete old and inactive accounts? to make their usernames available again for those who want to name change?

I was told accounts will never be deleted. Even if they are deleted, that username is still seen in people's "Quotes". I remember a user named Pollygone had constantly requested her account be deleted. The Mods/Admins would not do so, and she just ended up getting banned.

tl;dr I believe accounts will NEVER be deleted.

Yeah, you're correct. I remember that thread. I didn't know pollygone got banned, that's news to me.

We don't delete accounts. Ever.

And it's very very rare cases where we'll perma ban an account. People are going to be able to google you regardless. Any quotes people have made of your posts don't get delete and keep your old username on them even if you change it. And there isn't any way we can change that.

If you would like to leave you are more than welcome to leave, but we aren't going to do anything to your account.

Oh, and I'm sorry for your 3DS, Hoppy. I know a friend who went through the same experience. It's horrible when someone else steals from you.

If I recall correctly this was a work in progress, something that would take a while to work out all the details and is subject to change wildly.

There was a username clear that happened awhile back during the switch from ZetaBoards to VB for those who have not been active for quite a long time and have less than 4 posts. There'd probably be a special situation that it could happen in.

We have been floating around the idea of a proper system for taking over old names, either for a large sum of bells or a paid service. Nothing to announce right now though. In the past, there have been situations where we did allow someone to takeover an old name, but we generally don't do that anymore right now.
