I feel like everyone wants an elaborate cooking mechanic along with an energy system. As much as I love Harvest Moon, the stamina mechanic and everything was extremely annoying. :( And I can only imagine how much it will get in the way in ACNH. I feel like I'll be stifled much more than we already are in AC.

Thoughts? I'm open to all opinions.

I was a little wary about the stamina mechanic from the start. It feels like something that could quickly get annoying. While I'm not opposed to a cooking system, being forced to do it just to do something you actually want to do will just result in players hating the feature.

I think we'll only need it for digging up trees since they could pretty much let us swing our axes around like a crazy ape (theme park world joke there).
Hitting trees and rocks doesn't deplete energy, only digging the whole thing up.
Cooking will be useful for this but not a necessity.
I think the whole cooking aspect is just for aesthetics and for us to give our villagers and NPCs something like a birthday cake as well as clothes that we've probably been able to help craft using valuable materials!
We could probably host a party or make juice?
Remember villager requests? Go get an apple, I fancy a pear, I've heard about delicous oranges... etc...
Well, what if this time it's: I've got a hankering for some pudding, I could really do with some coconut milk right now, I'm hungry for chocolate cake... now villager requests have been stepped up a notch, and you know what? We wouldn't, like before be obligated to complete them (o≖︎‿≖︎)ニタァ♥︎(o≖︎‿≖︎) mwahahaha
So don't worry too much about cooking! It's just there for some cooking and yummy fun! I've waited years for this (( ༎ຶ ◡︎︎༎ຶ)
I promise, you're gonna have so much fun with it! If you don't, you can come visit my town island and trample all over my flowers ♡♡♡

Nobody wants an energy system. It's just that it's already there in the game so people are thinking of how a cooking mechanic could be incorporated.

The only thing worse than an energy system that's annoyingly in the way of doing things you want to do and making it feel like a phone game with artificially limited play per day is an energy system that is so useless and unnecessary that you wonder why they bothered to implement it in the game at all. I really dislike when a game has a bunch of different half-baked mechanics that are only used for very few niche things each, so they're trivial and overcomplicating the game needlessly.

Since they are putting an energy system in the game, I'd like to see a balance between getting in the way of fun vs. being useless and barely implemented. Moving trees is a great example because it's not something I would do a lot or just for fun, but it is useful for redesigning your town (like transplanting perfect fruit trees around a new public works project!) I'd be fine with new abilities requiring energy points because they're not the basic gameplay of the game, ya?

This is such a nice, cute, and funny reassurance. Lol! Thanks for putting it into perspective for me.

I’ve said this in other posts, but I’m sure this system is only for moving large objects such as trees, as we’ve seen the treehouse footage show Aya hitting a rock and no stanima was drained :)

I don't believe there will be a energy system at all in the game. In the Tree House trailer, Aya hit a rock and did some other things and no stamina was ever used. It didn't even show a stamina bar. I think we will be OK. The only thing that does require us to eat, is the eating of a fruit to be able to moves trees and possibly rocks or other objects that can be moved. I would still love cooking though just for fun. I can imagine giving my villagers all kinds of food items to boost friendship. So, if there is any cooking in the game, I'm sure it will be just for fun and not for any stamina bar or so. :)

So far we've only seen it for a new feature - moving trees.

I wonder - if they have some kind of bigger landscaping system - if thats what will need fruit consumption.

Mainly I'd like to make food items - a lot more for decor.

I definately don't want one.

One of the best things about AC is there are no time limits. It's relaxing. At your own pace style of game.

An energy system is great for an RPG, Side scroller, action game, but not in AC.

If it's just eating apples to dig up trees, I'm fine with that. As long as is isn't required to perform regular activities.

I pretty much agree with this. I would never want an energy system for doing normal daily activities. I don't mind what I've seen so far, using energy to go above and beyond and do something like move entire trees. I will definitely never use that feature myself, but it's fine that it's in there for the people who do want it. I personally prefer to play Animal Crossing naturally and watch my trees grow over the course of several days. That feels more fulfilling to me.

As far as cooking goes, I know a lot of people want it, but I really don't. Like the idea of moving whole trees around, if cooking was implemented, I would just never use it. So I would hope there wouldn't be villager requests to cook for them because I hate disappointing my villagers. :(

But I hate cooking so much more. I won't do it in real life, I don't do the Harvest Festival because of it, and I don't even add kitchens to my houses because I'm that opposed to cooking. It's the complete opposite of fun for me, whether it's in real life or a game.

So as long as it's optional and isn't needed to complete things in the game, then I don't care. But I'm with the OP and wouldn't want it myself.

Same here.

Totally want to grow my trees the usual way.

I hope we can still get special stump patterns!

I don't want a cooking element. I never bother with it in harvest moon, or pokemon with the poffins and whatnot, I don't want to have to bother with it in ac. It's tedious and often completely unnecessary. If I have to eat a few apples to move a tree fine, but don't bother me with complex dishes I don't care.

How do you eat tho?

I want to cook other villagers.

I don?t want an energy system at all. I want to be able to cook though. Just for fun really. Or like you know how they showed off eating an apple gives you the energy to move a tree and then it goes down? Maybe if you cook a meal it gives you more than one. The energy to move a tree is already in the game so I have to be fine with that I guess lol. I just don?t want an energy system like stardew valley for example. That would be horrible for me at least.

Nope. As someone who just completed a 41 hour fast today, and still went to the gym for weightlifting in between, I am with you. Eating for energy is unrealistic and not needed for an Animal Crossing game.

I wouldn't mind an energy system if it's a system of gaining benefits rather than of managing negatives.

So zero energy/fruit = you can do all the things you always do in Animal Crossing, without restrictions
Eat something to gain energy = now you can do new and rarely-needed activities like moving large objects, or do existing activities more efficiently/faster

Or to use RPG parlance, as a food/energy system reminds us of them - it should be solely for gaining buffs, and never result in debuffs if we ignore it.
