Patriotism

Are you a patriotic person?

I value what America was founded on, not how it's being carried out sadly, I'm going to have to stand a middle ground on this one

I love my country, no doubt, but I'm not what one would consider patriotic I suppose. Being proud to be apart of a country doesn't mean everyone else has to know. It becomes rather annoying in truth and I'm sure there are many people who can agree with me.

nah im not patriotic. there isn't much that i can be proud about this country i happen to live in regarding its immoral history and genocide. i guess for some there isnt anything wrong with being happy about where you live on the lighter side of things, but its unhealthy and delusional if you blindly support your own country while in denial of any flaws or evil deeds that it has done, if it has done any.

I love where I live but I wouldn't define myself as patriotic. I'm proud to be a Canadian but I know my country has a lot of flaws.

I don't know if that actually counts as being patriotic but I guess I associate the word with America's form of "patriotism", which includes claiming the country's flag is sacred but then slapping it on everything possible not limited to: every second pair of jeans in every existing store, swimsuits, shoes, and women's underwear.

Eh, I wouldn't call myself a patriot. I am thankful for the freedoms I have. America isn't perfect, but we're still within the top 10 percent of countries as far as standards of living goes.

I mean I hate a lot of what our country is about, given that it's built on the blood of my ancestors. (Native - Chahta - here, Halito) But I realize that my people have fought in wars and that my people are doing what they can to help the country - some are becoming doctors, therapists, teachers, etc. They're helping better America. So I will fly the flag and celebrate troops on the days delegated, but I don't have flags on my car or a tattoo dedicated or anything extreme like so many do.

What's the point of patriotism if you ignore your country's flaws and excuse them? Then the patriotism is a lie because it's based on something that isn't even real - a person's idea of what their country would be sans bull****.

You could the same thing about literally every other country. Do you think the Native Americans weren't killing each other before the Europeans came? Every nation is plagued with a past filled with intolerance: in India, blacks are treated like garbage; in Myanmar, Muslims aren't even considered citizens; and in many Middle Eastern countries, apostasy is punishable by death.

Note: I will not respond to any comments that'll lead to an argument

I'm not especially patriotic but I do prefer people who show love for their country. If you don't like your country, hometown, whatever, explore and find somewhere you like.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with patriotism, in a sense it's kind of a nice thing to think a group of people in a section of land all feel some sort of strength and support from that and are able to identify with their country or background, but the way people show their patriotism is not always... Good. And sometimes it can be misconstrued greatly. Honestly I'm not a particularly patriotic person, though. Some people take it too far. :')

I really hate the word "patriotism" because people misuse it and then try to use it against you and throw it back in your face. Some people act like you're not being patriotic if you disagree with something that some politician does. That you're a bad person because you don't like putting your hand over your heart or reciting the Pledge of Allegiance (which, for me, has nothing to do with the country and everything to do with the "under God..." lines - when I'm not religious and believe in separation of church and state). That you're horrible if you disagree with some law that Congress passed.

Disagreeing with things doesn't mean you don't love your country.

XD At this Point, I'm too terrified about the future of America to take the Flag with me at all times, and I can understand exactly where you're coming from, I do the same, although just not saying the words; My teacher would literally kill me if I didn't stand up. :)

I like my country, but I'm not crazy about it so no, I'm not a patriot.
Patriots are narcissists and annoying to listen to, so I'm not fond of them at all. They make the countries that they are representing look bad so nothing good comes from them at all.
