This just dawned on me today!! Patterns are so much easier to make with a stylus. Patterns are possible to make just using the Dpad and buttons but not the user friendliest way to go about it from what I gather. Your old 3DS stylus won’t work on the switch as it has does not have a resistive touch screen. Those touch screens responded to pressure but Switches will only respond to a specific material. Also be mindful of tip size. The thick point stylus might not be ideal for what we need them for.

Again!! It is possible to to make patterns without a stylus at all!! I don’t want to stress you out. Same for switch lites.

Yeah thought of this, ordered a set of styluses from aliexpress. Hope they arrive in time!

i only found out that the switch is touchscreen about a week ago and i still have no clue how to feel about that lmao

i don’t plan on making patterns but i need a stylus anyways because uh,, fat fingers :c

I'm just gonna use my apple pencil as a stylus. I can barely afford a switch already so might as well use my resources lol

This was a really insightful tip! I don’t have any styluses, now I’m thinking I should get one!

hmm some people on youtube said the screen on a switch is more like a phone than the 3ds screen. the 3ds screen uses pressure so you could use anything as a stylus.
lol I had a switch for a few months but never needed to use the touch screen.

The new Brain Training comes with an official stylus, it's a simple one so any stylus should work with it.

The touchscreen is definitely underutilized on the Switch. But I understand why, I have one strategy game where it can be used and the console is just too heavy in handheld for it to be reasonable over long time. But lying the Switch down and using a pointy stylus should do wonders for designing patterns.

Also here's a screenshot from the japanese commercial:

Seems like the old designer just with more pixels (and maybe some new functions?).

Do you think a rubber tipped one like that would work ok or should we look for one with a smaller tip?

I’ll try to find a thinner tip one for myself but I heard on a YouTube video the thick rubber tips are hard to make drawings on Splatoon so I assume it would be the same for NH.

Smart. I wish I still had mine

The Switch wasn't meant to be played with touch screen. The touch screen is good for mainly typing. At this point, it's unconfirmed if touch screen will work for New Horizons

I prefer controllers, honestly... never been a fan of touch screens outside of typing.

Also I have the pattern making app which should help make my patters, I am terrible at em anyway

I don't normally make patterns, but since they can be transparent, I can make blood pools and spatter in parts of my John Wick themed town!

Got my stylus already.

Same, I went ahead and looked up that Japanese commercial and the lady appears to be using the controls, so maybe you would do it with either?
