Pattern makers!! Don’t forget to get a stylus for the switch!!!

I could be wrong and touchscreen could not work on NH (it would be very weird if it didn’t)

Would a tablet stylus work? I think it would, but I'm not certain.

It should!

I got the official nintendo one, because it doesn't look like it would scratch the screen.

The pen ones I wouldn't trust.
I've put many a hole in the ds/dsi etc, over the years.

The stylus I got to use on my smartphone when I'm wearing gloves also works on my switch. Any stylus/pen that works on a smartphone or tablet should work on your switch--though if you're going to use it for making patterns, I recommend getting one with a pointed tip like a pen, rather than a squishy round rubber tip.

I dont think Apple Pencil would work with the Nintendo switch. The way the Apple Pencil works it requires the technology inside the iPad Pro in order to function. At least this is what I have read.

Im personally not going to bother with the stylus because they all seem to have thick tips that resemble fingers so you wont be getting much better precision.

Not all stylus will work with the Switch.

Yeah, I understand that sentiment. For me it's just easier to get those minute details with a tool.

hmm some people on youtube said the screen on a switch is more like a phone than the 3ds screen. the 3ds screen uses pressure so you could use anything as a stylus.
lol I had a switch for a few months but never needed to use the touch screen.

Yea, the switches screen is a capacitive touch screen. So it requires a stylus that has capacitive material on the tip.

What I would hope Nintendo would do is allow people to use their phones or tablets to create designs using the Nintendo app. This way the image would be blown up and it would be way easier to add details.

i'm going to wait until more reviews come out from people specifically using styluses for animal crossing new horizons. don't want to waste money on shipping for a few pieces of plastic that end up being too short or thick or long or something like that.

If nothing else, it would be easier to type in game with a stylus.

I just hope whoever made the qr maker for New Leaf gets on the NH one ASAP. Its sooooo much faster to make patterns on pc!

I feel like it’s too early for me to tell what would be the easiest way for me to make QRs, with a stylus or with the dpad. I have a rubber tip stylus I used with an older generation iPad that works for the switch. It seems to be the same kind of stylus type used for brain age (something like a pointed stylus like what we use for 3ds or iPad pencil won’t work unless modified a bit). I’ve tried using my stylus to draw on the drawing board in Splatoon 2 and it was really awkward and not precise so I always end up using the dpad instead and doing it pixel by pixel. Plus, in handheld mode, it feels really clunky and heavy holding your switch in one hand and stylus in the other in my opinion. So with ACNH I’m wondering if using the dpad would be easier in the end. My issue with using dpad or default switch controls is that it would be a pain if our controls start drifting in the middle of pattern making.

I just feel like this new system isn’t very suitable for drawing-type functions. But I’d have to wait until the game comes out to really know. An ANCH themed stylus would be so cute though... :’)

Yeah I was making a pattern today on new leaf and my rubber ended stylus would encapsulate 3 or so squares at a time and I’ll have to constantly clean it up. It’s like playing operation. I would say dpad over thick ended stylus.

wait, you can create new designs in New Horizons?
I thought that the ability to import those made in ACNL or from the Internet via QR code meant that it's not possible to create designs in NH. I also haven't seen anything about it in the direct either.
But that actually makes no sense, since it would rely on having a phone to scan the code with, and Internet or New Leaf, which I think they don't want to, so it makes sense that you can create designs in NH as well, I didn't think about it this way. Have they shown anything about it yet?

They showed a glimpse of a pattern maker in a Japanese trailer so yes, it’s definitely making a return!

@sierra Yeah, the nice thing about 3DS is that the pressure screen at the bottom can use pointed tips. I pretty much use a mechanical pencil when I draw on there. Unless they come up with a new stylus with a smaller tip that is compatible with switch (or a 3rd party with a sharper rubber tip) it’s likely I’ll just stick to dpad. I’m glad we can transfer some of our older designs over though because I’d like to see how my older paths translate on the island.

i always preferred to use the stylus on my 3ds for pattern designing, so it might be annoying to draw using the controllers instead. i don't have a stylus and i'm not going to get one right now but it's good to keep in mind, especially if you're an avid pattern maker

i never really got into pattern making but now i feel inspired to try my hand at it with the new transparency option. when i imagine making patterns in acnh it seems like it would be a bit clunky compared to acnl or achhd; we had a precise stylus for those games so using the dpad wasn't really necessary. now that we may have to use a rubber tip stylus i can see myself making lines that are too thick or something and becoming frustrated. i guess i'll just make patterns in acnh/achhd and hope that after i send them over to acnh i can edit them again to have newer colors or whatever other options they add. but we don't really know if we can even use touch screen yet so i'll hold off on stylus purchases until we know.

For precision people might want to look into these kind of stylus. I believe the apple one works too but this one was fairly cheap and has a clear tip to see where you're pointing.

Wow that’s exactly what i want. Thank you!!

using dpad and buttons is actually the better way to make patterns your less likely to mess up

I am pretty interested in costum designs now, specially with the ability to costumise stuff like mugs, never tried on NL before but I think that it's going to be a fun thing to do, I only hope we can costumise more stuff like shoes and pants, and that we can choose between the smooth designs and the old pixelated ones, I have a really thin stylus that I bought for Mario Maker, one with a circle transparent thing on the top, works fine for me, customization is going to be insane for NH, I am pretty excited about it.
