Place your random thoughts (video games in general edition)

I wish the Metroid series was far more popular than it currently is. It's no wonder new entries are kind of rare whereas you get a new damn Pokemon game almost every year or two. *sigh*

I really, really appreciate how Nintendo hasn't sold out like most of the video games industry, in terms of micro-transactions & loot boxes, half-baked game releases, only online live service modes and no zero or terrible single player, etc.. We're lucky Nintendo believes so strongly in their way of making games

I mean to be fair, they kind of are doing the half-baked game release thing. Sometimes they’ll release games that aren’t finished and then try to finish it with updates. It’s just a little less egregious (most of the time) than something like Cyberpunk 2077.

not disagreeing with you, just curious which ones you felt that way about? i feel like for at least the big main series, games are pretty polished, mario / zelda / smash / etc. pokemon is a whole different story, but that's not nintendo's fault mostly

The big series Switch games usually have more care put into them, but most Switch Mario Sports games are an example. It’s not like they’re super glitchy games but when you look at the content in them at launch, it’s way less than the previous games. I don’t even care about Mario Sports games but I’ve noticed that. Other examples would include New Horizons, Switch Sports, etc. It’s not like they’re unplayable, but if you’ve played earlier games in the series you would be able to notice that. At the very least they’re better than most AAA companies for not releasing games that don’t even seem play-tested, but most of the times the “updates” are just things that should have already been there being disguised as new content.

So I checked how many games I got during this Steam Winter sale, and the total is... 22 games. The majority of those were bought with the gift cards I got for Christmas, but it's still so many...

untitled goose game IS that short. i was hoping there'd more achievements or things to do. anyway, still a really great and silly short game! i definitely still have to do the speedrun achievements.

I love so many English Voice Actors and I think they’re incredibly talented, however, each time I tried watching it with the language set in English, I couldn’t help but find something was off. I think a lot of the times they seem to be maybe “overacting.” The vibes I got from some of the characters is significantly different from when I listen to them in English. Like Ororon’s character seems a bit eccentric, odd in a good way. The English version of him felt more normal even though in the story he is supposed to be kinda seen as an odd one.

Some other characters I find really cool, I find the English counterparts fall kinda flat. For instance, Wriothesley and Neuvillette. I like Joe Zieja voicing over Claude in FE3H and I think he’s talented. I get completely different vibes between Daisuke Ono’s VO and his VO from Wriothesley. Wriothesley sounds so cool with Daisuke Ono as his VO but with Joe, I feel like he is missing something that makes his character so cool to me. Ray Chase is an incredible VO but I think Hiroshi Kamiya fits the role for Neuvillette best. Both Levi and Neuvillette are aloof characters not to mention stern and intimidating in their own ways, and I think he really nailed it with him. Listening to Ray Chase’s VO, I feel like he is maybe putting too much emphasis in some lines like on the voice line where he introduces himself. It doesn’t sound as natural as it does listening to him in Japanese.

I was trying to find some Genshin cutscenes on youtube to rewatch - I was trying to find them in Japanese with english sub, but kept finding them in English. I feel bad for feeling this way and I realize it is a unfair; they are all extremely talented and try their best. I don’t fault the voice actors; I feel like part of the issue is the way the script translates from Japanese to English, not to mention the different interpretations.

Steam, why is this the only game getting flavor text when it didn't even release this year? Apollo Justice Trilogy doesn't say that. 😭

I kind of want to replay Harvest Moon: Animal Parade on a new save, since it was one of my favorite games when I was younger. I think it'd prove to be useful since I know a lot more about the game since the first time I played (I didn't even think to use guides or watch playthroughs). However, I'm not sure if I'd be able to keep playing since the game feels a lot more slow-paced compared to other farming sims (like Stardew) and there's a weird bug on my emulator where the screen is more zoomed in - Meaning I can't see my stamina bar, which I find really inconvenient.

Also, I'm mad at myself that I misplaced my physical copy of Animal Parade, since I plan on buying a Wii U someday and I would rather not pay for yet another copy. T^T

New Horizons was an excellent game, but I get that it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, I don't think that was due to lack of polishing though. I will give you some of the secondary series / sports titles, some of those can be pretty rough around the edges. I was excited for Mario Strikers' revival, first impressions were pretty good, then everyone realized there was no depth to it and it didn't stand up to the Gamecube/Wii versions, for example.

I don’t know why but I think it’s funny how far people that bought Sonic Unleashed actually got into the game, at least on the Xbox release, based on the achievement completion rates, which takes into account the rates for both people who got it on Xbox 360 and on a newer Xbox using backwards compatibility. For example, one wants you to save the first continent. You get this like, three or four stages in, and yet only 30% of people have done it. I’m going to guess that most people played the game, got to the first nighttime stage, and immediately decided they didn’t want to play the game anymore.

Same with the Mega Man Classic compilations. Literally every achievement in both compilations is a rare achievement, so less than 10% of people got any of them. I guess in this case, most people bought it to relive their childhood but then realized they were actually pretty hard and couldn’t beat a single one (each game has an achievement just for beating it once). I’m going to be one of the psychopaths that gets every achievement in all of the games I mentioned.

To be honest, I actually do like New Horizons. I think there’s better AC/Switch games but I still think the game is good. My point is that the game is polished, but I just feel like it looked kind of bare at launch, even if I got it after all the updates. I just think it would have been way better if the updates actually added things we haven’t seen in any AC game before.

I love Echoes of Wisdom! The art is so cute! 🥰
Anyway, I guess you could choose which level to do next, so I did the Gerudo dungeon first, and now I’m on Jabul Waters…which is actually harder, but I found a way you can skip some of those parts. No idea why a lot of people pick Jabul before Gerudo…maybe for variety’s sake? It’s harder than Gerudo for me, at least.
Also, Lueberry’s name makes me think of “blueberry” and “library” all at once. 😂

This is really interesting. 90% of people don't make it 10% into the game. People need to research a little better the games theyre buying!

My uncle's friend is giving me his Xbox Series X. It needs fixing but should be salvageable. Once it's ready, I'll get Game Pass.

I really wish there's an official Dixie Kong plush. I mean, they have officially licensed Dixie Kong plushies back in the 90's. So why not bring the plush back in a different form (like Sanei all-star collection) since she's gotten a rubber keychain design and made an appearance in Super Nintendo World.

I've been playing Fable Anniversary, and it's already one of my favorite RPGs. The concept of "play as a character throughout their entire life" is well done. I had never heard of this series until the other day, and I have no idea why more people aren't talking about it. So far it stands among the greats of the genre to me.

I haven't really enjoyed gaming much these past few days. Maybe I need to play an old Nintendo title or something as a change of pace.
