Was the Pokémon named Ditto after the expression or did the expression come from the Pokémon?

Before pokémon, there was a copy machine called a ditto machine. My mom grew up with them and told me about them. Now I wonder if the ditto machine was named after the expression or vice versa lol

I have a bunch of different avatar/signature combos that I want to use this year and some lineups I want to debut as well, but I feel like I ought to stick with the current aesthetic for now since Hybrid Flower Breeding Week is only a few weeks away.
