Plotting where villagers live

Is there a way to do this? I've read a little about it, but I'm not sure how to do it. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

The day a villager is going to move in, make a new character
Look around for the house plot
if you like it, continue and save
if you don't, turn it off and repeat

this only works if the first person who booted up the game is a new person
if this makes sense

On day a new villager will move in, start new file ( make new character)

run around and look for the house plot

if good, make house, save, then delete house later

if bad, just reset

Yep! I have terrible luck with campers though. It seems like campers that move in have very specific spots they want to move into. D:
