We usually carve pumpkins each year even though I'm not the best at it. They also rot so fast after you carve them so I don't usually do anything too complicated
No because I've never carved a pumpkin. I really like seeing carved pumpkins online though. I saw two pumpkins carved together as a Weezing and was amazed by the skill it took.
I've probably done them as a kid, but not that I can remember. So probably not. Same with gingerbread houses. I can't remember. My family didn't care to do fun things or make stuff memorable as I was growing up so I missed out on a lot. I did both gingerbread houses and pumpkin carvings the last few years. When I was taking care of my grandmother with dementia I did gingerbread houses with her because I thought it would be something nice to do with her.
I always try to carve something different or new each year. I think I did a simple Mario mushroom, a boo, goomba, ect. I'm not sure what I will do this year or if I will bother. But it is fun!
I seriously cannot remember if I have ever actually done it... I think so? But I really am not sure... I think I tried it once... I could definitely try it again. I think I'd enjoy it.
Every October, I go out to a few places around here that have nice selections of pumpkins and find ones that either look great or have characteristics to them that might lend themselves to particular designs. For some examples of these "characteristics", last year, I found one that was a variety with more yellowish skin, and it had some warts, so I thought it would make for a great zombie. Another had a sort of scar for lack of a better term, a rough, brownish patch that didn't impact the pumpkin's health or anything; I used red paint to turn that into a head wound and carved it a pained facial expression.
I usually get, like, five or six pumpkins each year. Most of them are used for Halloween, but I save two for use in November for my birthday, carving my new age into them. Just a tradition we started years back and have kept going.
I'm not the best at it, and I wish I was artistically inclined so I could make those cool pumpkin sculptures some people make. But hey, it's the thought that counts, and if I have a concept in mind, it's fun to do.
i did this so often when i was young, but in my ripe older age i find it too much work…. i’m horrible with a knife and the feeling of pumpkin guts was never something i enjoyed ): which sucks because i think the concept of the activity is so cute and that’s probably why i loved it so much as a kid
I’ve enjoyed it in the past, but it’s been many years since I had the chance. I wouldn’t turn down the opportunity if it came up as a social thing, but I don’t think I’d go out of my way to buy a pumpkin and carve it on my own. I really like seeing them lit from the inside on people’s front steps, though! I kind of wish it was more common in my neighborhood.
I feel like Halloween in general is sort of dying out as a public/communal practice and becoming more individual. Like it’s a month-long outfit aesthetic more than it is a neighborhood activity.
When I was growing up and saw the pumpkins around every October I really wanted to do it but Halloween isn’t particularly very big around where I live so have only actually done it a couple of times. Both times I did it I enjoyed it but I was pretty young so had help with it and wasn’t really bothered that it turned out very goofy - nowadays I think I’d lose patience with it quite quickly when it wasn’t going the way I wanted it to go
I use to tons when I was younger. Now that I've more creative stuff I do, I don't really feel the itch anymore. They'd bought some pumpkins last year, but there was a frost so we'd just left them outside. Come summer this year, I've a pumpkin plant by my porch!
I love the idea of it but actually doing it requires a level of planning and precision that I don't have. even cutting the top off a pumpkin is a huge challenge maybe I should try again as an adult...
I love carving pumpkins! Though it takes a bit of time to do it also~I wish I could use bits of pumpkin to make pumpkin pie~ Used to eat some from my old shop and it was so tasty. (Was not handmade, came already made somewhere else)
Here's some carvings I've done before, dunno if there's more but will update if I find more.
