This won't be good news to older 3DS model owners, but Pokemon Sun and Moon are known to be a bit laggy on the older 3DS models. Namely in certain battles and the startup screen. This honestly doesn't come as a surprise to me cause I've noticed lagginess in other games on my old 3DS. That, and the Sun and Moon Demo causes the old 3DS to do a complete reboot when closing the game (odds are the full game will do the same thing).

Overall though no worries if you only have an old model and can't afford/don't want to get a "new" 3DS the new Pokemon games should still play just fine on the old 3DS albeit a bit slow at times.

Here's a video from YouTube to demonstrate the boot times between the two models. (Don't worry there aren't any spoilers for the game in this video).

The startup time seems a bit extreme, but I imagine as far as battles, if you've played ORAS or XY on an old 3DS, then it's probably not much worse. I remember switching to my New 3DS was amazing as far as ORAS battles, and that was the only thing I really noticed a difference with.

I'm kinda glad i'm getting a New 3DS (Cosmic edition) for Christmas.

I was watching this yesterday and I couldn't keep my eyes off the old ds screen waiting like when is it going to load????? Yikes. Good thing I bought a n3ds this year.

Hopefully gettong a New 3DS. Is the regular the same as the XL? in lag comparison

I can say this is true x_x It happens the same thing with SuMo as it happened with SSB4 and MH4. They arent laggy on O3DS (atleast SSB4) but you can't access Miiverse and if you get out of the game the console will restart

Yeah, size doesn't matter as they have the same processing power.

Regular 3DS = 3DS XL
"New" Regular 3DS = "New" 3DS XL

(Obviously both "new" models are the faster ones)

The battles were really laggy in the demo on my 3DS... and it appears the game doesn't support the 3D effect at all? I reckon they could just optimise the game a little...

Okay, so from what I understand, Pok?mon Sun and Moon will be like Super Smash Brother and monster hunter 4 Ultimate, when you shut down the game, it needs to restart the 3ds in order to respond well. So in my opinion, the game will get a little laggy, but nothing too serious so you should be fine.

Reported lagging is one of the reasons I didn't get XY and ORAS, so I might as well skip Sun and Moon this time. I lost all the hype all of the sudden anyway. Looks like I'll just return on Pokemon when DPPt remakes are made or the next gen will be announced.

Definitely this. ORAS lags at times so basically, I'm used to it. How much worse could the loading time be for Sun and Moon? I'm experiencing lag on start up once I turn my 3DS on. It's expected that the new 3DS works better than the older one.

Actually, the only time ORAs has ever lagged for me is when a Moltresis called out for me because of all the effects a Moltres has on it's flaming body. Wait until you all try Triple battle with all pok?mon being only Moltres in both team. Such lag. XD

I haven't noticed any lag from ORAS and I have an older 3ds. I'm just waiting for Gamestop to open to get Moon today.

yee i get lag sometimes, my 3ds should be able to handle it. if it can deal with OR then it can take this fine. :3

I haven't experienced any lag with ORAS, but I also haven't finished the game :p

Thank you for the heads up! Hopefully the lag isn't too unbearable TTwTT

Oh wow, I really want one! Not sure if they're ever gonna be available in Europe though...
My 3DS XL is decent, but it's getting fairly laggy, and I definitely wouldn't be against an upgrade, although I'm not sure to wait
out for the Galaxy model, or just get a standard one aha!
