Ok, EV's are like imaginary "points" that a pokemon gains after battling a random pokemon. The EV's can be for different stats (Special attack, defense, etc). For every FOUR EV's you get, that means an extra point will be added to that stat the next time you level up. You can find which pokemon give which EV's on serebii.net i think.

So, say you have a Mewtwo and want it to be extremely strong in speed. You would fight loads of pikachu or something in the wild. So, say you fight 10 pikachu (20 EV's), then the next time you level up, you get an additional 5 points in speed.

I have done this in pokemon fire red and me mewtwo has like 360 special attack, i think. But of course, I have no idea about Diamond, Pearl, etc. since I quit pokemon, so it may have changed a bit.

1. The max in each stat is 255 (although you should aim for 252).
2. The overall max is 510
