Oh lawd those fishing tourney stats. I have never seen a performance as intense as that. I would not be surprised if you were the only person ever to have gotten to 999 points solo fishing.
I think the most impressive part is how you only broke 8 fishing rods. If my calculations are right you should have broken at least 9 more.

Both the fishing tourney and the bug-off will prevent your rod/net from breaking while you're catching insects/fish. So the net or rod only breaks if you catch a thing just a little too late, or if you're just in time but still in the 'I caught something' animation when the timer expires. The rods I used were flimsy ones, they usually don't last for more than 7-10 fish.

Well I learned something! I knew they didn't break when the timer was running but I always somehow ended up breaking mine just as it runs out. I assumed they just naturally expire when the timer ends.
I'll have to use the flimsy rod + timing trick next time! Thank you for making my fishing tourneys a bit more bearable.
Oh no, almost a week without posting! Don't worry, the island still exists, it hasn't sunk into the sea or experienced any massive natural disasters... I just didn't have much time to play and even less for keeping a journal! I did keep taking pictures though
After going all-out on the fishing tourney last Saturday, I spent Sunday doing some redecorating using the prize items. But it was a dark, dreary, all day raining, Sunday. Somehow, those rainy days in Animal Crossing always make me want to play a little less than the sunny days. I did take this lovely picture of Hopper singing. I love the idea of just getting in your rain-gear on a rainy, stormy day, to sing your heart out to the ocean! In the background, you can see some of the fishing tourney items I put out.
Another thing I did on Sunday, was place two throwback chairs and a speed ball on the beach in front of Antonio's home. It did pay off, though I haven't actually seen Antonio use his spot. Other villagers seem to love it though: on Monday I caught Kidd using the place for lunch, and today Bettina was enjoying a drink there as well.
Did I mention I love my tiny villagers yet? They're so cute sometimes! And it's even funnier when they interact with objects on the island, and look even smaller. Look at Soleil investigating a flower. If it wasn't for the tree, you'd almost think she really was hamster-sized!
(Imagine a David Attenborough voice-over) And this little penguin here is working hard to find his next meal. Life isn't easy for a penguin, and hunting for your meal is harrowing task.
Luckily, this little fellow managed to catch something. Now, he's resting content, trying to conserve as much energy as possible until the next hunt!
Last Sunday, Poveglia had a campsite visitor. She was like totally not allowed to stay, as I already have two peppy's (Patty and Tutu) and I totally do not need a third one!
Then yesterday, I enjoyed my new entrance to the fullest! Celeste was visiting and brought a heavy meteor shower with her. Finally, I had enough room to trap her and also have space for visitors to walk around I put up a post here, trapped Celeste using stone stools (so visitors could cross and explore the island), and waited. Quite a few people visited, and it was fun having them walk around my town. I stayed up waaay too late though, playing Animal Crossing until 11 PM
Then today, still hungover from the late night yesterday, I had another party to attend to. I guess the hangover tomorrow will be even worse. But say hi to the birthday boy: Antonio! I gifted him a blue toy box, which he'll hopefully use to displace the low seat he once accidentally got after I took one of those 'gift delivery' requests.
Besides that, there isn't really much to tell about Poveglia. Most of my playing has been grinding for materials and doing some of the daily tasks. I have acquired quite a nice amount of acorns/pineapples already, that I plan on using in decorating my town later. If I start doing that, I'll make sure to post updates here!
Today, I discovered that Alfonso is color blind. Or at least he's being typically male and not seeing as many shades of color as women usually do. "I got you something the same color as your raincoat"... yeah right. I remember the outdoor sandals and being disappointed they didn't come in a bright pink, so I immediately didn't believe him. Turns out they're red. Red, the same color as a pink raincoat?
Luckily, Hornsby was a lot cuter today! I love having two lazies in my town, but one is definitely a tiny bit more of a favorite! He just looks so cute wherever he is sitting down. And I love that his hobby is nature, he talks a lot about bugs, and whenever he's reading, it's also a book about bugs.
And last but not least: All the tree shaking to get acorns and pinecones to decorate with has started to pay off. As did all the painstakingly slow island hopping I did for my last two villagers: Chopping down every tree, hitting every rock, and gathering every weed before returning home. Then using all those materials to craft, craft, and craft again. But I've reached two major milestones today: I have crafted 3k pieces of furniture, and 3k tools!
Today was one of those very rainy Sundays again. I seem to have a bit of bad luck with those lately! Life is still quite busy, but I spent a good part of today creating my Haunted Manor for the Halloween event here . Taking this picture, with the faint lightning flash (I wish I had the patience to keep going for a brighter one, but this one does good enough) took me somewhere between 800 and a 1000 photos. I had to delete so many that didn't show any lightning at all! But I've found this really is the only way to have a chance of snapping a lightning flash.
I guess I am glad for the weather once. Without it, I wouldn't have pushed through and finish the manor today. I'm very happy with my Halloween decorations around the island. And the entire 'garden' I made isn't easily shared in one picture, so I've updated the dream address. There are still pretty big open areas on Poveglia, but I hope people enjoy roaming through the parts that are decorated already. Poveglia can be found at the following dream address: DA-4411-8495-9674
Okay, I know... I 'fangirl' over Hornsby waaay too often and waay too hard. Can't deny it though: He's my favorite. That haunted mansion I showed yesterday? It has a tiny 'haunted forest' next to the graves. And of course, Hornsby being fearless and all, he just sits right in the middle of it.
Sweet dreams, you silly rhino.
In other news, I 'discovered' a new camera angle. I just never realised you could make the camera go 'from straight up'. I always stopped at the angle just below it, as that's the highest you can go while walking around as well. So, I can take pictures of my villages playing the piano that don't just show their backsides. Though I'm not sure this is really an improvement...
Today I finally found the time to play a bit more than I did the past few weeks! I've picked some fruits and wrapped them up, and I've started gifting stacks of fruit again to the 5 villages I don't have photos of yet. I was lucky! I got Soleils photo, meaning there's only 4 more villagers to go and get photos from. I took a picture with her picture in the rain... yeah, rain again.
I had a hard time finding Tutu today. She's one of those villagers I still want to collect a photograph from, so I felt I had to hunt her down. My villagers are always never at the museum. But today I found Tutu in the bug section. She looked cute observing the bugs there. I hadn't been to the museum in quite a while, and I usually spend more time at the aquarium side than the bug department. I hadn't noticed the section with cicada's was as noisy as it was!
Last but not least: I found a group of three villagers doing their exercises in the plaza this morning, while it was still dry. Again, I don't think I've seen this happen more then twice before, yet I've played the game since March. Usually it's a lone villager or maybe two, but almost never a 'complete' group of three! Here are Antonio, Bettina and Alfonso. They may be exercising in their sleep...
Good morning! Right now on Poveglia, it's evening on Wednesday October 28th, 2020... AND THE NPCs ARE ALL DRESSED UP! I noticed this morning when I started the game and got Isabelle's announcement that something was different. And then I noticed the pumpkins outside of Resident Services... so I started exploring to see if more had changed. These are the things I found so far:
The best one I took at the airport, and I really want to share a full-sized picture of that one here because it could've been a postcard! "Greetings from Poveglia" from me and the silly Dodo!
And in other news, the campsite had a visitor. While I wouldn't mind moving out my current snooty Soleil, I am aiming for something better, not worse. And an aggressively pink tiger is definitely worse, if you ask me. So, I'm very sorry, Claudia... but I am snooty when it comes to villagers I like and you took your trip for nothing.
For those of you that have never seen my campsite area: It's rather 'plain', but I like it the way it is. It's on the top right corner of my island, on a first level cliff. It's mostly cedar trees, a tiny pond, a swinging bench and a small area for cooking, plus it's overgrown with pink flowers. It's one of the areas I might start redecorating once I get access to some more of the fall/winter decorations.
Okay so I'm a long way behind on Poveglia updates! So much happened over the weekend
First off, after having Claudia camping on Poveglia last Wednesday, on Thursday Patty asked to leave. I let her go as I had two peppy personalities on my island at that moment, and it was honestly getting a bit much for me. This meant that I could go island hopping on Saturday AND celebrate Halloween.
So, island hopping. I often island hop really slow, as I pick every weed and flower, chop down all the trees, and hit all the rocks before going to the next island. The longest I ever did that way was 30 islands and I was really reaching a point where I was considering giving up. This time though, I hopped 12 islands.
Colton is a smug villager, and since I like Kidd's personality I hope he fits my island better than another peppy. Also note that Claudia doesn't know the words 'give up': She had just visited using the campsite yet here she was again, roaming a bamboo island and trying to get in that way.
After inviting Colton, I had a few hours to do some real-life stuff before it was time for the next big event: Halloween!
I started out using my main character, all dressed up in the orange/black mage dress and hat, with white paint and orange eyes. Turns out Deirdre had the same idea! Ugh, so far for being 'original' and winning the 'best outfit' award...
I had so much fun giving out candy to all sort of villagers! I was a bit disappointed that the villagers that stayed home included Hornsby and Alfonso: The lazies are my favorites and seeing them inside instead of with the villagers outside made me a bit disappointed. Luckily, all went well: Saving and ending the game made it so that the villagers who were inside switched, and after switching to my second character I switched back to my first and got some pictures with Hornsby and Alfonso too! Prepare for lots and lots of pictures because I just can't pick the best ones
I shot a load of pictures from villagers in the plaza, scaring each other. I even got to join in on the fun with Tutu and Kidd!
I also tried to snap pictures of giving candy to each villager! It was very fun seeing how each villager personality had their own dialog. The lazies were crazy about getting candy, the normal villager was just generally coming across as very polite, while Tutu went overboard on the enthusiasm. Kidd was mostly disappointed he didn't get to trick, and Hopper was grumpy about sharing his lollipops
Don't tell anyone, but the person in the Jack costume giving candy to Alfonso is my second character, Tonk. I don't play him often, but I wanted him to do some trick or treating as well, and learn the Spooky recipes and new reactions. So Tonk met Jack, gave him some lollipops as well. After that he learned the scare reaction from a very enthusiastic Tutu. And Deirdre really liked Tonk introducing himself all dressed up as Jack!
I used both my main and second character to buy candies, and bought some on islands I visited. Between 'the two of us' we gathered 54 candies. That turned out to be... more than enough. I also got some candies using both characters dressed up as Jack, and from visiting my villagers in their homes. It wouldn't be me if I didn't keep any statistics, so here is a list of all my prizes!

I also got a mirror when I let Bettina trick me. She was very kind about it, assuring me it was just facepaint I could remove using the mirror!
And that was Halloween night on Poveglia I played the event for at least 4 hours I think, shared between the two characters and some of it was spent just watching the plaza or other villagers interact. I had so much fun!
New month, new furniture! Today I got the recipes for both the Mush Parasol and Mush Partition. I LOVE the parasol, though it takes up a lot of space. I had hoped I could use it to decorate the town entrance but it was too big for that.
Since I missed collecting the mushrooms on Nov. 1st and Nov. 2nd, I cheated a tiny, tiny bit and time travelled back. But I also collected the mushrooms for yesterday and today again, meaning I have now 6 days worth in mushrooms in my inventory. I keep telling myself that I only did that so I wouldn't have to travel back again if I missed a day or two this month again XD
I'm using the recipes to redecorate the area around my home. Right now it isn't much, because I don't have much mushroom furniture yet, and I'm also waiting on some of the maple leaf furniture to come out. I'm also doubting my decision to craft Mush Partitions.
But I'm sure that once that's there, I can have my own, very fancy tiny forest area around my home.
I kept some of the spooky decorations around
town too, but turned them around so they look like regular pumpkins. Like the one I have on the table here!
Besides cleaning up all the Halloween decorations, I got to add Antonio's picture to my wall of photos! Did people even know he was living on Poveglia?
I don't often post photos of Antonio, as the jock personality just isn't really my thing. I just don't find the photos of him huffing and puffing on the beach very fun to share. And he seems to do almost nothing else.
One other thing I did today was clearing out my mailbox. So much duplicate letters! I took some screenshots of the one I liked most, and I'll put them here behind a spoiler tag, just so people that don't want anything spoiled don't have to see it. There are one or two older screenshots as well because I already had those lying about.
First, the letter Soleil sent me today. She's clearly trying to get on my good side, even though there's no need for it as I like her a lot!
I love crafting, I'm an avid crocheter and sometimes when I get really bored I can even make a reasonable drawing. So letters like hers are definitely appreciated
Then, an old letter from Patty. I must admit I have glitters lying around, just because sometimes you need to make a birthday card that messes with your best friend.
They DO cover everything. But they're also fun to work with, as long as you know the easy trick of cleaning up.
The lazies in my town sometimes have weird tastes. Like this letter from Alfonso, written on a blank piece of paper... Ehhhm...
Yeah, sure, it's a very pretty piece of paper. At least when I tear something out of a notebook like that, my edges are never as neat!
Then, a while back I saw someone post a thread on here about how the lazy personalities in this game were kinda gross, talking and writing about bugs and stains and gravy licked letters.
Well, the Peppies aren't any better! Seriously Tutu, I don't need to know about you throwing up. And I really don't need the graphics that come with 'and there's my lunch'. Please just stop these, thank you!
Another letter about crafting! I guess the developers knew their audience. Carrie has moved on, but I'm keeping this letter. Because I really, really really love the thought of her making something especially for me.
Can't have been easy with that kid she used to be hauling around all the time. Bet that's the reason she ended up covered in glue.
Hopper has written more than one letter confessing his problems with fishing to me. I find it very funny having a penguin of all animals say that he can't fish.
I see him walking around town from time to time with a lollipop, so at least I know he's not going hungry. Hang in there buddy, I'll send you some bait too.
Another classic Carrie letter! The normal personalities are one of the few I can really like.
And, who wouldn't want to live in a library? I wouldn't mind, at least! I love reading and I love the smell of old and new books. And if I lived in a library, I'd have a system for loaning books to friends that would make me less worried about not getting them back!
Oke, last one. This one is just funny. Thank you for making me smile, Hornsby. You know you're my favorite villager
English is not my native language, so perhaps these puns are really, really childish... I at least haven't heard them before so they make me smile
Thursday came with another campsite visitor! He didn't get to stay, but having Benedict around for a day was fun. We played some games and talked a bit.
Maybe some day he can stay, but for now I'm looking for villagers that have homes that look like homes, not outside areas.
I've been having bad luck hunting down the Mush DIYs from balloons (so far I only got the Parasol and Partition), but I've been doing some decorating around my island entrance and villager house.
I've changed the outside of my home to be less dark, stark and haunting. I like the feeling it has now: It looks like a little home you could see in a forest.
Besides that, I've swapped the pumpkins for mushroom farming. It's not much yet, but I love the Mush Parasol.
I pick all the mushrooms that spawn each day and then drop them in the little mud patch. Doing so does allow 5 new ones to spawn each day. But, having them dropped outside will also repeatedly get you the 'pick 3 mushrooms' nook miles+ goal in a day. Easy miles: just pick up three of the dropped mushrooms again!
The next steps will probably include adding a few leaf piles and mush logs, as soon as I can get my hands on that.
I had Kidd com out to help with the front yard. Here he is doing a careful inspection to see if these trees can stand the harsh Poveglia winters. They're all good to go!
Also in this picture: My mush partition that I'm still not very fond of, and a whole bunch of bushes that I just planted. Most of them were hydrangea bushes, if I remember correctly.
I may need to actually start color-coördinating them some day, but for now they'll make a nice green 'fence' once grown. Better than the iron-and-stone fence that was there for Halloween, I hope!
I've also started some work on the island entrance. It's not much yet, but I've placed out some trees bounty items to get a tiny bit more of the forest/fall vibe than the spooky arch and fossils were giving off.
I can't wait until the tree's bounty arch becomes available. I really, really need one to put near this entrance, it's so empty otherwise!
Looking at this picture, I need to get rid of those tulips, move them behind the lamps at least. That'll be a project for tomorrow then.
I've shown a few pictures from the inside of my home already. This Triceratops skull has been there for ages. I liked how it was a great centerpiece that drew attention.
But after months of playing and not doing anything in this room, I decide I might want to try something different.
Where once the skull was my pride and joy, now it left me kind of indifferent looking at it. It was also regularly getting in the way when I want to take pictures of my photo wall.
So this is what I came up with: A tea table, simple brown mat, and three other fossils. It's something, but it's not the triceratops skull...
I was aiming for a room that would look a bit like a messy, unorganized study room: It would have a fossil, classical music, a study desk, books, a piano. These fossils seem to fit in, yet at the same time I'm doubting my decisions.
Today was the day I got to add Tutu's photo to my wall! So this post will be a Tutu appreciation post.
I'm starting to like Tutu a bit better now that my other peppy villager, Patty, is gone. The cheerfulness and enthusiasm that goes with the personality is nice, but only in small amounts, if you ask me. Having two made it feel a lot more fake.
Tutu was apparently also very pleased today! I found her together with Hornsby, they cheered each other up
Too bad I couldn't get Hornsby in this picture as well... Oh well! Today was supposed to be all about Tutu anyways!
When Tutu arrived on Poveglia, her home was right next to the airport. Hers was the villager home I moved so I could have more room for trading near the airport.
Now, she lives on the west side of the island, on the peninsula. It means she doesn't have a big garden around her home that can be decorated, but I don't really miss that.
I love how the thatched roof of her home works out with the palm trees and lighthouse to create a beach home vibe.
I can also often spot Tutu doing yoga exercises. Maybe even more than any other villager! Here she is doing some on the peninsula. To be fair, this is a spot she often picks for this.
I like seeing my villagers use the spaces near their own homes, somehow that makes me think I did something right in the decorating of those areas.
The only downside about Tutu doing this much yoga? I almost never see her walking around in her pink heart sweater... and she looks so cute in it!
Today will be a post filled with rather random things
First, this week Poveglia saw a light meteor shower on Tuesday. I made some wishes, and on Wednesday there was something on my beach that I had forgotten even existed.
A large star fragment! I think the last time one like that washed up was after the heavy meteor shower back in June!
On Wednesday, the island woke up with a new villager on the campsite.
Kinda hard to miss, the entire island is still stinking.
This one didn't get to stay.
Also, Wednesday was heavy meteor shower day! I got the Scorpio lamp from Celeste, and invited
other visitors over.
In the end, I ended up quickly closing the gates again to strangers. Someone with a bad NAT type trying to connect made the connection fail twice to a point where I had to get a new dodo code each time. That gets boring soon.
Mick came by for a while though, in all his space glory. We had fun making a few wishes, and he showed me how bad I had actually guarded my mushroom farm. Glad nothing got stolen by the few visitors I had had by then!
I was still smug about my large star fragment from Wednesday morning, and then I found another one on my beach this morning!
Double joy I'll need to figure out what to craft with them... Probably something for Tonk's home, as he's the one that has a room dedicated to the Celeste furniture.
Not shown, but just out of frame: A washed-up Scorpio fragment, which means I can also craft the lamp to give to Tonk.
And the day got even better: A lily of the valley! I hadn't had one of those in ages either, because mostly my island would be 'cluttered' as Isabelle likes to call it.
For the past few months I've had so many materials, tools, gifts, flower seeds and saplings lying around because I was busy gathering materials, crafting items and grinding nook miles goals.
Only for the last week or so have I managed to keep my island relatively clean (I'm also not playing that intensely for now), so this was a nice reward to see
Today, let's talk about DIY recipe hunting, because I shot down the final mush recipe! The Mush wall was the only one I still needed.
If you know me by now, I like keeping track of some things. So, I've kept some stats on the balloon hunt. I hunted balloons on 3 different days (Last weekend on Sunday, yesterday and today). It took me around 5 hours in total to hunt down all the Mush recipes.
Three recipes I didn't have to hunt down: The wreath (got that from Isabelle), the mush parasol and the mush partition. I shot those two down by chance while I was just playing.
Which leaves 8 recipes to hunt down. It was intense, but kinda fun to do so.
Here I am, all dressed up and ready to go, waiting for a balloon to spawn. I used the trick of going inside and talking to a character after every balloon. This increases the chances of a balloon spawning every time the minutes on the clock end in a 4 or 9.
It was quite a success, though even this method sometimes doesn't succeed. I had ~10 times where I could not find any balloon spawns.
All in all, I had to shoot down 56 balloons to get the last 8 recipes. Last week I shot 39 balloons and got 6 recipes out of that. Yesterday I shot 16, and got 1 recipe. I had planned to go hunting again today, but after digging up the fossils the very first balloon I saw and shot down included the mush wall, so that means I'm done now.
What I noticed most is that once I started, I got nothing for a very long while, except 2 tree's bounty recipes I already had. For my first mush recipe, I had to wait until balloon nr. 25! After that, I got 10 DIYs spread over 31 balloons, which means almost 1 in 3 balloons carried a DIY. Some were duplicates though.
I hope that rate carries into next week as well, when I'll be hunting maple leaf DIYs! My trees are ready for it: Some are already almost as red as the cherries growing upon them!
I've put the full list of balloon colours and prizes below, behind a spoiler tag.
Before starting the hunt, I already had the mush wreath from Isabelle, and I shot down the mush parasol and partition by chance.

Yes, it's a week since the last update. No, I'm not very sorry. Nothing much happened on Poveglia this week. Maple leaf season started, so Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were spent hunting balloons and gathering maple leaves.
On Thursday I also installed the autumn update, and immediately bought the new reactions. Here's me rocking the 'sit' reaction in my picnic spot. Picnic spot has been there since early May, but has never seen any usage up until this past week!
I put up several of the mush and maple leaf decorations today, and updated the dream address from Halloween island to autumn maple leaf season island.
One thing I was excited to get was the tree's bounty arch. I've seen it on TV in commercials a few times, and I couldn't wait to put an arch near my entrance area again. After taking down the spooky arch, the area felt slightly empty.
Now, I can rock the tourist vibes again and be happy with how the area looks!
I've also 'finished' the mushroom farm areas on my island. This one is next to my home and used to hold two patches of white pumpkins around Halloween.
I kept only 1 patch, you can see a tiny bit of it in the previous picture of me at the airport entrance.
I've started moving in some lily of the valley flowers to this area. I think I'll be putting up some more if and when they spawn on my island again, this time in the area in front of the 'farm', where you can now see the log bench and black cosmos at the bottom.
Here's another picture that shows the area around my home. The tree that's on the top left here is the one on the bottom right in the previous picture.
I love the colours my home has now, I did my best to try and change it up from 'kinda spooky haunted house' after Halloween to 'family friendly forest cottage'. I think I succeeded
Oh, also, don't mind me. I'm just enjoying my leaf pile!
I also did a massive overhaul of my quarry. I don't think I ever shared a 'before' picture and I forgot to make one... but the gnomes used to be standing on the ground, and all the other space between the trees was filled with hedges.
I wanted something else for quite a while now, and I had another spooky arch there during Halloween season. I decided after that, that I wanted another arch there as well, and replace the hedges with more wooden things.
Again, I'm happy with how it turned out!
There's my 'other' mushroom farm. This used to be another patch of pumpkins, that I decided needed an overhaul after October was over.
It's one of the "busiest" decorated areas on my island right now, and I'm still on the fence about whether I really like it or not.
I love using the mush parasol items, though this one might be a bit big and unsymmetrical for this area. Perhaps I'll remove the clothesline and scarecrow and add another parasol there, though that would narrow down the walking path a lot... To be continued, I guess.
Okay, one more picture of me enjoying a nice pile of leaves then. I have a dirt path on my island where most of it is lined by tree stumps because of bug hunting.
But in one place, I dug up the stumps (I don't know why I did that...). I've now filled in that gap with a mush parasol and two nice leaf piles to sit in.
I hope one day a villager will join me! Though, with my luck, before I have the camera set up and myself sitting down, my villager will have gotten up again.
The update also came with random dream island visits! So, of course, I had to do one of those too this week.
I found an island that was in the middle of summer, and I had honestly forgotten how green the grass could be!
The best part was this haunted bathroom though. I have no clue how this person made the fog on the floor, and I guess this will haunt me forever.
Then, last but not least: Balloon hunt lists!
