PSA for Traders/Host-ers about Wet Suits!!!

Thanks for the heads up! Another reason why it's SO important to NOT go AFK while trading.

I've thought about this ever since I tried jumping off the dock but I wasn't sure if anyone could swim on your island. A good way to circumvent this from happening would be to place fencing on all of your beaches too so that once they get there, they can't move anywhere else on land.

I’ve seen a post on Reddit as well warning people of this. Like others have said, I think that swimming is so slow that you should be able to shut down communications before the person reaches their target destination, but it’s a shame that we have to worry about this at all.

Going AFK while having strangers visit was already perhaps not the best idea, but this new update confirms that it’s better trading practice to be actively monitoring the trade as it happens.

I never go anywhere during a trade until the host moves.
Then I follow them.

I wouldn't feel right just going off and exploring.
I just couldn't do it.

Yeah, this is why I'm going to stop leaving things on my island if I want visitors over. It's too much trouble to fence everything off. ;(

Can’t you just end the session if that ever happens?

You can if you're watching them, but I've been to some people"s islands who were leaving the game open so we could catalogue / wish on stars etc and they weren't actively playing.

Being able to restrict where visitors go is pretty handy in that instance.

Hopefully Nintendo will fix this. I don’t want to fence off all my beaches, so I probably won’t open up my island to strangers for awhile. I only do it for turnip sales anyway. It is a bummer, though.

Ummm... Cant you just pick up your stuff before doing a trade? I mean, they cant do much other than picking fruit or flowers, which will grow back.

I don't think this will be "fixed", since it's not a problem for most people.

true. but some folks have money trees that they don't want shaken. sadly, those do not grow back. also, since spare DIY can't be stored, a lot of folks have them in the house or on the ground. being able to lock down an area was great for trades.

i'm hoping nintendo just disallows diving off of the airport platform. since it looks visually fenced-in already.

Maybe people don’t have space to put anything? And we shouldn’t have to worry about it in the first place! Simply updating it would lose the hassle of picking up everything every time you invite someone over

Thankfully, I am only doing trades and giveaways in this forum. But I will keep an eye if someone jumps from my airport dock.

I think people are overreacting. Remember, 99% of the people you trade with aren't vile creatures that want to ransack your island. They want to get out of the trade as soon as possible. Most trades are done in mins, like wave, drop, pick up, wave and Wilbur chat. That's it.

If you are worried about the items on the ground, simply watch the trade for suspicious behaviour. I mean its obvious if the person runs past you to god knows where, you can just end the connection ,right? And how often does this scenario happen to you? I assume rarely, bc most people are serious traders.

It makes me sad thinkng that people feel the need to fence off their beaches, can you imagine what hard work is that?? for a trade that will last only a few mins?

I’ve traded with hundreds of people online, and I’ve had instances where Redd will be on my island and people tried to run off to him. In trading discords (ie. Nookazon) there’s a lot of little kids as well who like to run off and have tried to run towards money trees and DIY piles. I made a fenced off around for trading because of this.

Is it overrating when you’re fencing off beaches for one trade? Imo, yes. But if you trade with several people a day for furniture or NMTs, I would make me kind of nervous. Also, it would really suck to have people go around the fences if you have a event or multiple people over. People can buy out your Nook inventory as well.

Oh gosh, this is definitely something to look out for. If you're fencing a pathway to your shops then maybe just staying at the airport entrance rather than by the shop is a better option now? When i normally let people in to sell turnips i stand by the shop but i think now it'll be much much safer to stand at the dock

this! People just need to keep an eye on their docks if they dont want people getting out of fencing, which most people do anyway when opening their dodo on public discords or turnip exchange and such.
I swear some people act like they cant just turn off their switch or close the damn game if someone tries to steal

My whole island is accessible to every person that visits and I don't really follow them around... just pick up stuff that you are afraid they can steal and that's it. Nobody can really damage your island like they could in NL. The only things I fenced are my star trees.

Putting a fence along the shoreline is a good idea but it's going to be annoying to fish. You just have to put it back on everytime you are inviting someone? x(
