Question about behavoir of AC:NL community

Hi guys,

I'm new to Animal Crossing and New Leaf is the first game that I have really played in a long time. I join the forums because I was hoping to met like-minded people that would help me reach my goals and I would help them reach theirs but today I had an incident that make me question if I want to become a part of the community.

I had someone contact me on skype today saying that they found me on the TBT forums and I was like cool this is what I totally signed up for, you know meeting new people and having a new experiences. So she asks me for my fc and I give it to her and she comes to my town and we go to the island to play tours and she ignores all of the objections. We play three games and still she running around not helping me and I turn off my wifi because I was like this is super fishy. She then yells at me saying she need to collect red tulips again and to open up my gate.

So my question is if someone needs to collect 1000 red tulips do they need to tell you this before coming to your town or was I over reacting? Like I said, I new to the community and I don't know what's acceptable behavior.

I think anything should be communicated imo. Especially if she is coming into your town for some sort of benefits...but that's just me. I respect other people's towns in a way in which if I went to someone's town I won't go beyond the plaza. You have all rights to be upset! And the only rule governing your town is yourself.

I think she should ask you first and if you're ok with it then it's fine... I mean she was basically just using you. I think you were in your right to turn the wifi off. o-o

Thanks Bernie! This was my first visitor and my first time playing a multiple player game so I didn't know what to expect.

Any visitor should "Request" taking anything from a town they are visiting, a host is NEVER obligated to give away or trade anything. Please do not take this one individuals behavior as the standard or the norm.

And it sounds fishy to me, if she is not explaining what she is doing.

Unfortunately this site does not support the listing or removal of troublemakers like this, but I think it should be alright for us to ask for a PM of the persons name or at least fc so that we can avoid having them cause trouble for us. (at least I hope it's alright to try and protect ourselves like this.)

There are some seriously nice people here. But I wouldn't post my Skype in my public info- anyone browsing the forums could see it, without being a member, I think, and that skeeves me out.

I'd try sticking with people you know are members here- you can check out their post history, and get a better feel for what they might be like. It sound like the person you dealt with was a definite PITA though-very rude and obnoxious.

This is true, I noticed today there were over 200 "guests" on the forums at one time.

o_o I think you just had really bad luck on your first visitor ):
all the visitors I had were polite enough to ask before they do anything and mostly I was visited for my re-tail or just hanging out owo
and when I visit I make sure to get permission on things like fruits, flowers and fortune cookies.

there are definitely many players who are really nice and helpful u///u

on a side note, I 10000% support you turning off your wifi :> since that just made everything she got from/did to your town lost.

I agree with everything everyone has been saying. I have been using Wi-Fi since Animal Crossing: Wild World, and although I have had some negative encounters prior to visiting this forum, since I joined The Bell Tree, I have been lucky enough not to have had any. I agree with Hirisa in that you should add people that you know are members. Whenever I have people over at my town, I like to be talkative, that way I know the visitor is engaged in what I have to say as opposed to running off and doing something they shouldn't be. It's my own weird way of checking their intentions.

It's her game, her island tour games, her connection, her rules. She can ask you whatever questions she wants, and of course you don't have to answer. But if your answers or lack there of don't satisfy her, she doesn't have to open her gates to you. That's all you need to know. That chat log really doesn't help you at all... in fact I think posting it was a bad decision on your part.

i don't ask you questions about what you do with your town now do i? no i don't. honestly if someone doesn't want to tell you something accept it and move on. there's nothing fishy about maintaining your privacy however there is something fishy when you want to be all nosy and stuff

First off I agree, if someone doesn't want to answer a question they have every right to refuse answering. You have a right to your privacy. However, she has a right to refuse you entry of her town and island if she's not comfortable or doesn't want to just be used by you for flowers.

She owes you nothing. It's not like you were paying her for her time, right? So if she gets nothing out of this, why would she bother with you? It's not like you have an amazing attitude. Maybe you have a great personality but you're not exactly letting it shine through right now. Consider how you're making yourself look. If this is the image you want, then fine. Keep going.

Yeah, give the forums another chance
I have met some nice people who are so polite when they visit my town.
Delete that girl.
She shouldn't be shouting at you in the first place.
And she shouldn't be using you to get red tulips.
Playing with others is supposed to be enjoyable for both people involved, not just one.

That's... odd. If they just wanted to collect red tulips, why didn't they do it on their own on their island? Feels like if you're just using the island to collect flowers or fruits, you don't have to waste other peoples' time while doing that.

Anyway, so far everyone I've met online has been from these forums. Most people here seem nice and actually sell/trade things for fair amounts.
