question about collectibles messages and dates

i couldnt find an faq about this-- but do the collectibles only display the original message from the first person who gifts it to someone? (so that sellers/re-gifters cannot change or add messages?)

also, ive seen people asking for birth stones and other collectibles with particular dates on them. would that only appear if it had been gifted?

The message can change each time it gets sent

Dates only show on collectibles that have been gifted, but someone can see the date you bought it on through the shop tab on ur profile

I like looking at the messages people display, but it seems many have collectibles with message dates earlier than their join dates. thats what made me assume the messages couldnt be changed. do people change their "join date" displays? or maybe some items get transferred to subsequent owner with no change to original message/date?? wait- this just occurred to me- maybe the date shown is always the first transfer date, but the messages can get changed each time?

The dates on the collectibles are the dates they were bought in the shop. The message can change but the dates cannot

The date you're seeing is when the collectible was initially purchased, not when the message was added. If you purchased a collectible yourself and opted to display it, it would show only the collectible name until it's gifted, at which point the original purchase date/gifter shows up. People are able to have collectibles with a date earlier than their join date if it was purchased by someone else before the current holder joined the site. After all, these little pixels do tend to change hands quite often. ^_^

And yes, you can change the message each time a collectible is gifted. The gifter also changes, but the date you see is always the original purchase date. Hope that clears things up!
