So I know that if you load an island back up save file you can either connect an existing character to your Nintendo account or make an new one. Now I wonder: If you make a new one, will this character become then the resident rep. and what will happen to the existing characters, like the one who was originally the resident rep. for example. Will they deleted or can you pick them via another account? And will the old resident rep. becomes a "regular" character then?

That doesn't work like that, If you go to Settings, Tom Nook mentions that you cannot move a Resident Representative off of the island, he can only move "regular" Residents off of the island (meaning the users that you have on the island). If you choose to move a Resident off of the island and bring to to say a new switch with a copy of ACNH they become the Resident Representative of that new island. Tom Nook does mention that if you do that they keep their home, bells, nook miles, and their nookphone.

To better explain this I do have a 2nd switch and a 2nd copy of the game. So what I have to do is to make sure I have no save data on the 2nd Switch and then I have go back on the main switch and go to Settings on the Resident that I want to move out. Then I go back on the 2nd Switch then I select the option that says "I'm moving" when you speck to TImmy and Tommy at the Airport the first time when booting up the game. Then I go back on the main switch to see a "Transfer Request" and when everything works it will detect who I am trying to move off the island that I want on the 2nd Switch. When everything goes right the transfer will be complete and the user that I had from the main island is now the new Representative of the new island on the 2nd Switch.

Now as far as trying to move your entire island to a new switch, that I haven't tested myself but from what I understand is that you need to once again have a 2nd switch with a 2nd copy of the game. Then you also need to download "Island Transfer" from the E-shop. Then you need to log in into your account that contains the backup save data from your last switch and it should be to transfer what you had before onto the new switch. Once again you have to make sure that the 2nd Switch has NO save data on it so it can work.

It sounds complicated but, hopefully you can understand it.
