Hy guys I'm fairly new to this site and I'm wondering how often people get scammed around here by other members/players. Not that i'm suspecting anything, it's just that I'm also part of ANOTHER ACNL board and they have problems with scammers and griefers. Honestly, what can I expect from the members of this site and how paranoid do I have to be?

Are you talking about GFaqs by any chance? Haha.
I haven't personally had issues with anyone yet - the best thing to do is to look at a user's wifi rating and see what comments people make. For anyone with less than a 100% rating, you should definitely read the comments under their wifi tab, and it's always acceptable to not want to do a trade with someone if you're worried. Jenn made a really good post here about how to avoid scamming if you're especially worried. Hope that helps!

I've done a lot of trades on this forum (about 100) and have never been scammed. If someone has a high wifi rating with a 100% positive rating, then it is usually safe to trust them.

Also, its worth noting that if you notice anything fishy going on and you're not playing on a New 3DS, you can always just flip the wi-fi switch to terminate the connection and not lose anything.

But of course, this should only be used as a last resort. Which thankfully, I have yet to need to do in all my times of trading here.

If they try to harass you or steal then you can always just flip the wifi switch, even if they are leaving on the train so it's not even worthwhile for people to scam. Also you can leave a bad wifi rating if they d, and if you are scammed of btb (bell tree bells) you can contact a mod and they can handle it.

I've literally never been scammed. I've been a dunce and left my gate open, gone afk and then come back to find some of my hybrids and such stolen, but that isn't so much a scam as somebody seeing an opportunity to steal and just making off with whatever they could hold. I don't excuse them by any means, but I also know I could have prevented it by remembering to close my gates... oh well. It's in the past. (Wish ACNL had a log of who visits your town so I could've figured out who did it, though.)

To reiterate: No, I've never been scammed during a trade. As others have said, you can always flip the wifi switch if you think someone's acting strangely, or leave a bad rating for them if you notice they shorted you after the fact and can't resolve the issue privately or whatever the case may be. I've only dealt with fishy types on sites other than this one. The Bell Tree is, as far as I've experienced, full of pretty trustworthy traders.

I have yet to encounter any sort of problem in trading here~ Everyone has been incredibly helpful and nice! One thing that can help in determining a "would-be scammer" is the new-ish WiFi Ratings system. After trades, each person can leave a positive, neutral, or negative rating for each other, which can build up great credit for everyone~
I had also previously been a part of a separate board that was, needless to say, "sketchy" at times... There was no way to keep people accountable for anything, so every trade was a gamble. I had heard about The Bell Tree forums, but never committed because I was lazy and didn't think it would be any better. But holy freakin' cow, when I finally joined I realized how great it was~ :B A trade that might have taken a week to be finalized took me about 5 minutes here lol
But anyway, I digress~ Welcome to TBT~! :p
