random move ins still exist?

I’m sure there will be still, but it sure won’t behave like New Leaf.

Just think of Tom Nook announcing a new villager in town and asks you to come visit him where the villager is also at.

From what we've seen in the Nintendo Direct, this is how villager move ins will work, or at least how I believe they will work:

1. Interested parties: Nook will inform you of interested parties, and you will select one of them, which are likely randomly generated. Basically, you get x number of random move ins, but can choose which will move to your island.
2. Nook Miles Tickets: You can come across random villagers while partaking in exploring the smaller deserted Islands via Nook Miles tickets. You can invite them to your island.
3. Campground: Basically the same as New Leaf.
4. Amiibo Cards: You can invite a chosen villager to your campground, and invite them.

I hope thats not the case... choosing one out of 3 is not the full randomness I would like to have next to the other options

I have this odd feeling that there isn't going to be any completely random move-ins. Like, we won't boot up the game one day and have Nook tell us that there is a new villager on the island and they might need help deciding where to move. Instead it sounds like we get to pick who and who doesn't get to move in from interested parties. (Which will probably be random, but not the completely surprise random like it was in New Leaf.)

It is full random, though. Your choices are still random. You're just getting freedom with said randomness.

To me, while the choices would be random, it isn't true randomness because it looks like we get to pick who moves in. Unless there is an option with Nook that says: I don't care, you decide. That would be true randomness because the player would have no influence over the options then.

From what I understood, Nook tells you there's people interested in moving, and you may plop down a plot for a future house to move in, and I imagine you don't get to choose who moves into that plot.

In all honesty tho, we just don't know, I imagine we will know more when we get closer to release, as I think reviewers will get their hands on review copies and write many articles about it.

i think it’ll still be random to a certain extent but we’ll have a lot more choice in who moves in and where.

I don’t think they can move in unless you craft/purchase the lot space for them.

They never confirmed you could pick which of the 3 villagers would move in. But you probably can tbh

I agree with this post. This seems to be the main ways we'll get new villagers. It seems like the only truly random ones now will be the first 2. After that, you will get at least some sort of choices.

Yes because you can place a plot for when someone random moves in they can take that spot you set for them

i think you can get random move ins if you set up a lil area for a house to go. it showed it in the direct after it was shown that the player had 3 people that wanted to move into the island so i don't know if they had already picked one and then set up a place for them, or if they were just setting up a place so one of the 3 random villagers could move in.

if u dont wanna pick close your eyes and select a random one. theres an easy workaround.

I feel like when Nook said there was 3 villagers interested in moving in we might get a choice of picking how many of the villagers we'll let move in, but won't know who it is. Right after they showed saving a plot of land so if we saved two then two of the random villagers would move in, if we saved 3 then all 3 would eventually move in. That's what I thought when I was watching the direct at least

A lot of people just assumed we would get a choice of the 3 villagers...but in my opinion, it's very likely that we choose where we want 3 houses to go and get 3 new villagers, bringing the total from 2 to 5. I got the impression this was the first early-game expansion. However, I could be wrong, but I feel like this will facilitate random move ins. And, when you have a slot open, you can get Nook to bring in a villager.

The campsite and amiibo cards will act like how they did before (although amiibo villagers may still be able to move out? who knows), but I'm really intrigued by the random tours. I have a feeling for people who want more control and picking on who they want to move in, this is it. However, the convenience of going on a tour (instead of waiting for a camper) will cost Nook Miles.

I really like the way moving has been presented so far. Now, I want to see how villagers move OUT

I'm honestly not sure if we will get to choose between the "3 villagers" mentioned in the direct. It could've just been that in that moment we could put down 3 locations for houses because in that build no one had accepted any villagers yet.

What if we don't want any of the randoms?
I don't.

I have amiibo cards for exactly who I want, and don't want to be rushed/pressured by the game or Nook, to move someone in that I don't want, or am not ready for.

I don't care too much if random villagers move in at the beginning but PLEASE I hope that the only way to move out villagers is to initiate it. I don't want to become anxious again about missing the move-out of a dreamie.

Maybe you can refuse them all, too? Even if it took resetting after talking to Nook.

I just love how many different options of getting villagers we have this time around!

Is anybody else excited to explore other islands and get a chance to meet and invite some of their Dreamies?
I have almost all of their cards, but I'd prefer not to abuse that too much and want to try to get at least some of them "naturally"
