Actually, Nook is a Tanuki. A mythical Japanese creature called the Yokai, a group of special monsters that which Kapp'n is a part of(Because he's a Kappa)

Just don't ever look under Nook's apron. Tanuki's are known for their testicles(Google it if you don't believe me)

they can be any age you want them to be in your head.

I was annoyed in the GameCube version when you would play late in the evening (after midnight), and if you'd talk to an animal with a 'cranky' personality, he might say "What are you still doing up?
