I've been expecting another content purge. They did announce they are changing their ToS in December. Not sure if that is up yet. In addition to that they were involved is a legal thing with the FTC which will result in fines for creators in the thousands if they don't mark applicable videos as kid appropriate or not.

Also separately, very recently many Markiplier viewers were suspended, some google accounts deleted, for spamming emotes in a stream chat.

Anyone feel like keeping track of this current train wreck with me?

Remember when YouTube was enjoyable? Seriously, this website is nothing but a giant trash can now. It's sad seeing your favorite YTubers getting slap in their faces because of dumb rule changes and what not. Hopefully there will be one day a better alternative for YouTube and everyone can move over there, making content without getting hurt by stupid things like these.

We need a YouTube alternative and we need it now. Google these days is an absolute mess and I try to avoid using their stuff as much as possible, but the one thing there’s no real alternative for is youtube.

People getting banned in the Markiplier chat is alarming to me too. Imagine spamming too many emotes in a livestream and then being locked out of your email address and not being able to access any ANYTHING. People have their lives connected to those accounts and losing them without warning could potentially be devastating.

IMO these tech monopolies like google and Facebook need to be broken up. They’re too big for their own good and for the sake of everyone who uses them we need to anti-trust their asses.

We do have Vimeo and Dailymotion but not many people use them and I don't know much about them to say they're better options. But at this point anything is better than Youtube.

I've been looking more into the FTC thing. Just found a video by SomeOrdinaryGamers talking about this. Can't post it here due to understandable swearing. He clarified a couple things. If I understood this correctly, it is now illegal for ads to target anyone under 13. Also Youtube isn't the only one that is going to be affected.

Every time I go to view something on Youtube a video with some chick pops up saying the video has been removed.

Geez. I just want to watch Supernatural since they haven't bothered to air the LAST SEASON EVER in Australia yet.

Just heard you can lose your google account if you admit to using adblock. Not sure where or how. I'm not admitting to anything.

At this point, I've lived through so many "is this the end of YouTube?" scandals and scares that I'm just gonna see what happens without worrying too much. I've just been burnt out on it too many times to care anymore.

oh yeah. youtube's gone to absolute crap lately. recently, my friend's youtube channel was deleted for pretty much no reason. she's tried to contact youtube but they haven't answered yet. youtube better fix themselves before they do something regrettable and end up getting boycotted.

I'm not really expecting this to be the end if youtube like some reactionaries are expecting, some people will have problems, problems fixed, rainbows and unicorns for six month until the other bad thing happens.

This is getting the attention of more people, and knock off muppets:

yeaahhhhh this looks a lot worse than i thought.

Not surprised ad I doubt it's gonna be better with those new EU copyright laws coming up as well. Can those copyright people chill.. like make your stuff available if you don't want it uploaded then?

About the youtube drama.

I'm no expert of anything but couldn't you use a VPN that's outside of the U.S. Or based outside the countries within the 5 eyes security alliance. Or better yet be in a country that doesn't follow the same principles/laws. You can't be prosecuted by a US law if your not technically in the US right?

That's why I don't understand why youtube creators are freaking out so much. :S

I don't think many are trusting those since nord vpn got hacked. Turns out they rent their servers.

I did find a brief history of COPPA and how they went after Mrs. Fields cookies. Funny how they offered real cookies for tracking cookies. Of course I'm not as optimistic. The FTC has committed to sweeping raids, and referenced shooting fish in a barrel. Their words.

This could go either 2 ways:
1. Just another Youtube end scare
2. Mass purge of channels and the end of "free speech" youtube as we know it.
