With the start of Gen 7, regional forms (or also called regional variants) got introduced into the Pokemon universe. These are Pokemon that can be found in a specific region, where it takes on a different form and type than it does in most other regions. Certain forms also having a region exclusive evolution. So far, we have the Alolan forms and, since Gen 8, the Galarian forms. What is your opinion about these regional forms? Do you like them and want to see more in the future or do you think they are unnecessary? Which form is your favorite and which your least favorite?

I find regional forms overall fine. Like, I don't mind them at all, sometimes, the regional form of a certain Pokemon looks even better than the "original" form (like the one we knew the whole time). Favorites so far are Alolan/Galarian Meowth (although I'm kinda disappointed that Galarian Meowth is not completely fluffy as it looks from the front but just has a fluffy "beard", still a cute however), Galarian Farfetch'd, Galarian Zigzagoon (with evolutions) as well as Galarian Darumaka. Not such a big fan of Alolan Geodude and it's evolutions, their designs doesn't really appeal to me.

I liked half of all the 7th gen ones. I don’t seem interested into the 8th gen ones though.

I felt pretty indifferent to most of the alolan variants, except for alolan raichu who I love and alolan geodude who I don't care for. I'm a fan of most of the galar variants, expecially galarian ponyta and zigzagoon!

EDIT: accidently posted before I was finished haha

I like the idea especially since it's really difficult to come up with a 100% new Pokemon from scratch all the time, but it's a re-imagining of an old pokemon enough to make it feel new again.

I might not like all the designs but that's true for all Pokemon. We each have our own tastes. Odds are someone out there likes them.

I REALLY like the idea of regional forms, especially with the added regional evos. I do however find the lack of non kanto ones annoying.

Not sure my meowth needed another one but I love oerserkker so can’t complain

I really like the concept of them. I wish GF would drop the G1 favoritism, though. Even though there were a number of non-Gen I forms in Galar, it still heavily favored Gen I. =/

I love Galarian Ponyta/Rapidash, Alolan Marowak, and Alolan Vulpix/Ninetales, but I think most of the rest of the Gen I ones we could really do without. Especially boring dark type additions like Alolan Meowth/Persian and Alolan Rattata/Raticate... And Alolan Grimer/Muk and Alolan Diglett/Dugtrio were really not so great either.

I feel like Galarian forms were largely more varied than the Alolan ones, so that's good. Even if my favorite variations are the ones I listed above.

I feel guilty for liking Galarian Rapidash so much. I think it could have just been a new Pokemon, instead of a Rapidash variant.

I like the regional forms. It's a little something else that mimics reality and makes the Pokemon world feel a little bit more real and fleshed out. It's cool actually, especially since they largely put a bit more thought into these than just taking a Pokemon randomly and making it ice type, I've not seen one of these variants and thought "but, why?"

What I could do without though is the huge gen 1 bias. I don't particularly hate any of the gen 1 regionals but as usual, it would just be nice to see Pokemon from other generations get the treatment on features like this. If they're just trying to shine some light on older Pokemon (which gen 1 doesn't need anyway...the limelight is never off gen 1), I would at least like to see some more forms for gen 2-5 Pokemon since all of those can be called 'old' at this point.

And I hope we don't end up with another Meowth variant in the next game. It makes a change from Pikachu, Charizard and Eevee getting all of the attention all of the time, but I don't understand why Meowth is the one who got a variant 2 games in a row...Meowth got quite a bit of attention this time actually, and I just don't get why.

I think my favourite so far would be the Galarian Ponyta, it's just adorable...Not a big fan of the Rapidash though. There's just something about it I'm not fond of. Wheezing is a fun novelty too, not something I would have on my team, but gentleman Wheezing is a British national treasure as far as I'm concerned.

I feel guilty for liking Galarian Rapidash so much. I think it could have just been a new Pokemon, instead of a Rapidash variant.

I think if it was released as its own separate Pokemon, it would have either just fuelled the "they're running out of ideas" fire or got people saying it should have been a regional variant.

I prefer Alolan Raichu and Vulpix! :)

I also really like Galarian Ponyta, Zigzagoon.

Every other one I either hate or are indifferent to. I think it's a cool way to give old Pokemon some love. I'd rather them do this than create new Pokemon that end up being forgettable.

YESSSSSS. Honestly have we exhausted gen 1 yet? I get that a lot of people only played gen 1 (so it's the most popular) because they grew up with it and then stopped caring about Pokemon which is the reason why gen 1 gets pandering all the time but can we give other regions a try?

I'm more of a fan of the galarian forms than the alohan (didn't play that game though so just going off photos). I lovee galarian mr. mime and meowth. Zigzagoon also looks super cute in galarian form but I think that's because I feel like the colouring suits the Spikemuth vibe so well. I've always been a fan of the original ponyta though.

I love regional variants as they improve on the existing Pokemon, like how Ponyta and Rapidash were terrible battle-wise but the Galarian forms are really great to use through a playthrough or battle with.

I LOVE Galarian Pontya line and also Alolan Raichu! Alolan Geodude line just annoys me haha.

Why did they have to do that to Meowth in Gen 8 though? The cat looks so stupid with its Galarian form.

I like them, I think their neat. It brings something new without adding too many pokes. I just hate how some are just... goofy. Like their TRYING to make memes. Alolan Exeggutor, persian, dugtrio, ect. When they first revealed regional forms are back in galar (with weezing being their first reveal) I was happy but also I was all "oh god, more bad designs" tbh though some of the galarians aren't too bad. They could have done more forms though, especially from other regions. I was soooo hoping for galarian flygon ;-;

My favorite would probably have to be galarian corsola. It's so creepy and cool I love it. It even gets an evolution too! :3
Alolan Nintetails is pretty cool as well. Love the snow warning and aurora veil combo. It even had decent speed to go with it.
Why did they have to do that to Meowth in Gen 8 though? The cat looks so stupid with its Galarian form.

I like the idea of variants and I think they look pretty cool (though I prefer the Alolan forms to the Galarian ones). What I don't understand is why they had to make variant-specific evolutions. Like, why does Galarian Yamask evolve into Runerigus? Why couldn't they just introduce a Galarian Cofagrigus? Same goes for Galarian Meowth and for pre-evolutions too (why is there no Alolan Cubone, or a Galarian Mime Jr.?). Also, I wish different Pok?mon variations could co-exist in a single game.

Oh god Nox brought back my worst nightmare lmao

I'm indifferent about regional forms, and I think that while it's an interesting concept, they're not really that great. There are a few that I love, like (including evolutions) Alolan Vulpix, Galar Zigzagoon (especially the shiny), and Ponyta, but the rest are just kinda like... yeah it's a thing that exists but I don't really care.
