Title, basically. This stinks. DX

I've seen the island layout I've wanted a total of 6 times so far and each time they had oranges or peaches, except one but that one had two villagers I wasn't very pleased with, so I've had to keep going. I wasn't picky for my first island, but I'm being picky with my second one.

Oh, and if anyone was curious, I am trying to get this specific island layout:

My controller's battery has died so I'm just taking a break (to complain on here lol) while it recharges before I go back to my FIFTH day of resetting.

I'm sort of curious why you're obsessed with the fruits and villagers. The starting villagers can always be rotated out later and its easy to get all the fruits through trading with users on TBT. What about the Dodo airport colour? Since that never changes maybe you should think of what colour you want the airport to be.

there are little details like on your passport there’s a little icon that shows your island fruit, and sometimes during dialog with villagers and npc’s, they’ll mention the native island fruit. for me i’m super nitpicky and would notice this if it was a fruit that wasn’t my favorite. i do agree that i don’t understand the obsession with the starting villagers being ones you like especially since their homes are the starter ones, and i’d end up swapping them out anyway.

I agree with this. My two starter villagers were not villagers I wanted: Goose and Cherry. I just moved them out. I was only concerned with my native fruit and airport color, but more so my airport color. Also, the two locations of your river mouths can’t be changed or the location of your dock.

The starting villagers are always a jock and sisterly pair. I got Boone and Fuchsia and moved them out as soon as I could. I agree. I guess maybe fruits matter if you want your passport to have a certain fruit. Mine was oranges, but since I've had all the fruits for such a long time I guess I was unaware how important a native fruit can be to some people. I think Khaelis already knew where he wanted the river mouths and dock, and is just frustrated with the fruits and starting villagers.

tell me about it. i tried doing that when i first started to get specific villagers but gave up after three or four tries. good luck though

I know what you mean. As someone who has restarted their 2nd island a lot of times, I sometimes have a hard time picking a layout that is so good. Like I want Resident Services to be not so close to the airport, but I also don't want it to be in the middle where it like blocks rivers. I usually pick a map layout that has a pond in the main area where you start off at. Either way its frustrating trying to find the right map. I was able to find great one for my main island, but for whatever reason I kinda struggle with the 2nd island.

I always seem to get oranges or peaches whenever I make a new town, etc, and I'm just tired of them being my native fruit and want something different since I tend to prefer to have mostly my island/town's native fruit. As for the starting two villagers... if I have the ability to avoid it, I'd rather just avoid it. And from previous experience, the starting two villagers are a bit annoying when it comes to getting them to move out, so I'd rather just have two villagers I'm "OK" with. Also, the airport colour doesn't really matter much to me, since I like all of them for the most part.

For the most part, I just want to nitpick certain things to make a really nice looking island as a passion project to do over the coming months.

Hmm, I get how annoying it can be trying to find the perfect map but also have a good native fruit and villagers.

For me personally, I got pretty lucky when I reset my island a couple of months ago. I found this great map layout that I really liked and ended up with peaches which was the fruit I wanted on my first try. The villagers normally don't bother me too much, unless they are villagers I absolutely cannot stand... (Diva *gags*). Otherwise I just put up with whoever I get.
I'm usually quite picky about fruit and airport colour when resetting. I will only settle for blue or yellow airports XD. As for for fruit, I have this curse where I almost always get oranges, so I just simply refuse to have them as my native fruit now. I also don't like pears...

I have this map  I got it on my second restart of my island and I got cherries as my fruit. I had made my first island as soon as I got back from a 12 hour shift and misspelt my island name and didn't notice till I was in the tent basic stage. So I had to redo it again cause it would annoy the heck out of me. I got this island map when I went to do it again and although I had Peaches the first time which I wanted I liked my map to much to change it again for peaches.

i feel this pain! i can't even begin to count how many hours i spent resetting back in the NL days.. it probably makes up half my play time. i'm forever thankful that going into NH i had a much more open mind in regards to everything since we had the new terraforming options (which i realise have no impact on the little details like native fruit and rock placement, but it meant i tried to relax overall). good luck getting the layout you want - i hope all the time is worth it!

I would never be able to do what you do. I spent maybe 2 hours resetting until I decided on a map, and that was too much for me. Initially I was looking for a double south river map layout and cherries. For some reason during the first day of gameplay, I accidentally chose the wrong map and didn’t notice until the very second day. I had not even started terraforming or anything major, and I was still dreading having to start all over. I did end up resetting and I think it all turned out great. I wasn’t picky with the starters because I knew I would eventually get rid of them anyways. The airport I decided on was orange and the town fruit is also oranges. So far I’m still overall very happy with how things turned out. What was more important to me was my Town name and Representative names since you can’t change those. I made sure I selected names I knew for sure I wouldn’t regret (I had a whole year of preparation for that). In new leaf I had issues with wanting to change my town and mayor names, and it bothered me forever, and kept me resetting all the time.

That’s a great map. Hope you found it. Finding the perfect map can be frustrating. When I started my second island it too forever to find the right one. I didn’t think I was being that picky. I had four requirements I was looking for. I ended up finding one with most of them. The only thing I didn’t get was my native fruit. For some reason in all my animal crossing games must of them have oranges as the native fruit.

I hope you get that island!

I reset my island 9 times the first day in my quest to get Dom as a starter villager and the island layout I like in case I turn out to be horrible at terraforming lol. Did not get him, but I love my island and though the process was tedious, I knew I was picky so no regret :p

I just want all to know, on my 2nd island I got a double mouth river and let me just say its so hard to make diagonal paths. Like I know how to make diagonal rivers with bridges, but as for cliffs its something else. You really can't put inclines diagonal and I have to make sure that they are opened and not too cluttered. I will have to restart again, but I wanna make sure I get all the furniture variants and villagers I get on this island before I do the restart and of course transferring all items to my main island (bells, materials, nook mile tickets, and nook mile items).
Glad I am not the only one who has struggled to find a perfect map.

Starter villagers can always be kicked out, and should be since their house is terrible. I wouldn't reset over them. The fruit you want can always be planted. Unless the airport is of a specific color, I'd not worry about the fruit or villagers.

I did some testing to find out if a starter villager keeps the same interior and to my surprise they did not. For example, Kiki was one of the starters I had on my 2nd island (Bastion) before it was deleted. I had an empty plot on my main island so, I invited myself over, talked to Kiki who was in boxes and she agreed to move in to my main Island (Destiny). I time traveled the next day and to my shock she never had the starter interior, it just gave her the original interior she has.

So it is confirmed that any starter villager you move out and someone else invites them to their island will not have the starter interior and instead they will have their original interior. I hope that made more sense.

Yeah we've known that, but unless OP wants to adopt out and re-invite, best not to worry about it

Yeah, after playing a year and a half, the thing i wish i'd tried to get from the beginning was a different airport color. My airport is green and i have red phone boxes, black street lights, green public seats, and plain utility poles. I'd rather they all be a different color honestly (I know i could trade for different colors but that's a pita i'd rather be able to just order the ones i want, as many as i want)

OOF resetting can definitely be frustrating as hell, especially when it takes days 😭. i hope you’ve been able to find the layout that you’re looking for by now!
