Mafia Retired TBT mafia players: what would make you play again?

It's hard to know what you mean Ryumia, when you leave it that vague. Are you talking about the pressure to make cases? Provide rainbow reads? Not overdefend? I'm not sure exactly what the typical playstyle is on TBT outside of pressure to make cases or take stances. But that's mafia in general.
Like... It feels like there's specific path one has to take and that's basically it when it comes to the game. Just kind of feels like you can't do much in the game at all. For example, I remembered being told that it was better to look for mafia instead of town in my last game despite the fact that I figured out who was mafia in the end because I was looking for my allies instead of the enemy (Note: I was playing in the side of town. Just to let you know in order to clarify the situation.). Like taking a different path to get to a goal isn't possible or something is what I am trying to say. I feel that kind of vibe whenever I'm playing the game. Hope I explained it at least a little bit clearer in what I am trying to convey here.

Yeah, Ryumia, that is completely my fault from that game. I got overwhelmingly competitive in Russian Roulette (if that's the game that you're talking about) and tried to force you into a robot doing my bidding. You don't need to act a certain way in mafia. I do think hunting for mafia is a better strategy, but that is just my opinion

Also, yeah. I agree with Chick that one of the major reasons why more people are not participating is probably because The Cellar is a sub-forum of The Basement, and therefore people aren’t really going to find it or see it unless they are looking for it on purpose. If it had its own place under The Basement on the home page, then perhaps it would get a lot more activity, but at the same time I’m not sure if the staff feels like it’s an active enough place to be another section to the forums. I’m not really sure to be honest, but it might be a good idea to ask them.

The Cellar definitely doesn't have the activity to warrant being anything but a sub-board - and it is considered a game, hence it's location within The Basement. Prior to having its own sub-board we had to play mafia in The Basement. It actually got its own sub-board because of its popularity.

It sounds to me like we should have longer phases (72/24) but even so, I think certain people being more active than others is going to overwhelm those who just...seem less active/contributive because they're not posting as much as those people? Maybe in general we need to get more cognizant of what we deem mafia coasting is versus town coasting.

Absolutely. I get accused of coasting every single game no matter my alignment. To combat that I then have to play a huge number of hours a day, because my posts easily take a good hour or more to put together due to the amount of reading/research that goes into them. It puts me off playing a lot of the time.

Not 'instead of', but 'also'. If they had said 'also' I would agree with them. There's nothing wrong with figuring out your townies. That's process of elimination as a means to hunt for scum. If all you were doing was naming your townreads rather than people you suspect it can frustrate fellow townies if you're not taking a stance somewhere so sometimes you gotta throw noodles at the wall and see which one sticks. In other words, throw suspicions out on people you don't read as town and see which person reacts the most scummy. Or see who takes advantage of your suspicions. I hate to sound like I'm also telling you that your playstyle is wrong but you have to have a bit of both townie and scumhunting in a game in order to decide on who to lynch. In other words, would a game get anywhere in a large game if people were only expressing their townreads?

I know you being on European time doesn't help and, coming from a third shift perspective, I know where you're coming from. Maybe in games we should have the host list people's timezones for the OP?

Do I think your play could benefit from being more interactive in games? I do, but if nobody is online when you are able to be, you kind of can't. Probably easier for you in smaller games where there's less post-traffic.

Okay. I like the 72/24 hours phase idea, since on Mafia Scum they have like 1 month days on there, but I feel like it would just turn some people off. I actually tried to implement a 72/24 hour day one time, but a lot of people were against it.

I suppose so. But... It still feels really restricting since it feels like there's some type of "etiquette" here that I have to follow by. I feel like it's better to play how I want play instead of what people expect me to do. When it came to my "play-style"... A lot of things that I was doing was more along the lines of trial and error. The method that I used in my last game was like the first time that I've ever used it since I wanted to know if there was another way to reach a goal. So... I don't know if I would be using it again or anything since I was thinking of exploring other methods that I can use to achieve whatever win condition I would get in the future if I were to have resume playing. I'm still pretty new to the game itself, so I don't see why not I can't explore other options when it comes to TBT Mafia. The more I know then the more help I could be. Though... That's probably gonna take a while. Sometimes I'm just not sure who to ask for Mafia advice without them trying to restrict so much on how I should play.

To answer that question... I think it would depend on the scenario of the game that has that situation occurring. Would think at some point in that game an answer to who wasn't town would arise from it. I mean... Some would argue that their townreads are wrong and such. That's just how I am looking at it.

The 2 week days there were stressful enough as was for me, lol. It would be too sudden, too.

Dolby, Ness, Tina, and myself are good people to go to for mafia advice imo. There are others but they aren't active.

But yeah, I think you can find a way to take advice but still play from your own perspective, you have to take bits and pieces from what people recommend you do as one alignment or another. People with experience will recommend certain things because they have experienced this or that, part of developing your playstyle is determining what among those recommendations can best progress how you want to improve on your town and mafia playstyles.

Mhm... Okay then. I'll keep that in mind. Ar least... Try to do that. To answer the question that you labeled as the topic title... What would get me to play mafia again (that is once I feel like I got enough advice) is if the theme/concept of the mafia game is something that I am interested in or something.
