Ye I re-posted the original 20, no edits were made in either post to those 20 items submitted. The first post just got the edit tag from the post merge (which, let's be honest, this is a high-stress event so slips can be made 
I shouldn't have attempted adding anything in the first place but in both the original submission and the new unedited post, the same 20 items were used throughout )

And the op doesn't say that we can't resubmit an updated list so I'm actually genuinely unsure if we can? No editing is obvious because you can just add something at a later date but that's not the same as resubmitting a better list.

Sure and I don't see anything wrong with that for this type of race. Especially if we need at least 80% to submit in the first place!

I think the main takeaway is: the first submission was never meant to be edited
I only wanted to, in a separate post
if it was ok to make an addendum in new posts
and if it was posted faster than the other team still
add a new option for items *if* one of the previous ones wouldn't be counted since it didn't have the packaging (though is still visibly an orange soap and is one of the dove summer citrus soaps)
those were the 3 ifs if any of them weren't to be an "if true" the post could be ignored for the original submission
Because the post ended up merging and editing the original submission, I just took all original 20 images and recreated that original submission in a new, unedited post
