So I tried to make a scorpion island tonight. Not really for bells but just to catch one. I found a decent layout but after 1 hour only 2 spawned. Managed to catch one of them. The problem? Diving beetles. Omg. So many. Oh man. At least I don’t have to look for that one now but I wasn’t binge watching Netflix I don’t know if I could have done it. Super frustrating.

I guess they also sort of nerfed the spawn rate of the scorpions and tarantulas? :(

I've only managed to get a tarantula island three times, so I don't have much hope I'll be able to do it for scorpions and that was before the patch.

The best (besides real Scorpion Island) is Bamboo Island. The second best is the spiral island, but you do have to catch the giant water bugs (unless those have been replaced by diving beetles--I was on the spiral island tonight and the giant water bugs were still there). Because of them, it turns into a two hour-plus process. You just have to catch them and begin to replace them when you're full and catch a scorpion. It's terrible, but it works. Also, I advise carrying about 8 customization kits so you can keep your net from breaking.

Edit: maybe they were diving beetles if they look about the same as giant water bugs. I didn't have the heart to make a scorpion island tonight, so I didn't catch one. I did catch my first scorpion, got my tree furniture and my DIY bottle, and got out of there.

Yes! I didn’t have the patience to look for a bamboo island so settled for a spiral. I wish we had the bin again like in NL. I was just tossing the bugs after a while. Had to.

When I had scorpions, I found when it rained on the island, it was the best way to farm them. It eliminates the flying bugs and I think the crickets. Trying to chase off crickets in SH sucks. It's like walking behind a toddler that doesn't know which direction to go.

Now since I have tarantulas, its almost too hard because we have an invasion of damselflies and those are impossible to chase off.

I managed to catch quite a few on a bamboo island last night.

Funny thing is I wasn't looking for bamboo or scorpions. I wanted fruit and wood. 😂

Hmm. I made a scorpion island tonight and had about as much luck as I did when I was making tarantula islands last month. The giant water bugs were a pain, but not so much that spawning scorpions was impossible. After about an hour and a half I had a full inventory of them. I had a pretty inconvenient island layout, so I dug holes around most of the island to make a smaller area for scorpions to spawn which made it a lot faster. I've heard that they nerfed the spawn rates, but it wasn't noticeable to me.

I made an artificial scorpion island last night with the bamboo island and took 30 or so minutes to clear it. I didn't fill my pockets because I kept getting stung, but managed after 10-20 tries, so I only caught one and gave it to Blathers. Next time I'll consider putting holes on the sides of the island so I won't get stung next time.

Oh cool, these are great suggestions. I’ll try holes next time to control area of spawn next time.

I got the small bamboo Island the other night. It's the best one to farm on excpet the real one of course. After clearing it out all you have to do is scatter the wharf roaches on the 2 rock areas and another Scorpion spawns.

Took me about 20 min to clear it then about 40 to fill my pockets...

I might have to do the bamboo island method...because, I've only had two scorpions spawn in my village naturally, and I got stung by both because I haven't been able to figure out their speed just yet. I'm not looking to farm them for money...I just want one for my darn museum. Lol. Seems like they almost never show up without being forced to do so.

Same here, barely saw two in my island and are more quick than the tarantulas 😅

I guess I'll try again looking in random islands with that trick :>

Some tips for those who do not know...

1. Do not walk / run around with net out. If you don't have net out you can almost walk up and pet them
2. When you see one, position yourself, take net out and hold A button down
3. Creep towards it still holding A
4. When it raises it's claws, stop. Keep holding the A button
5. When it relaxes, creep forward still holding A
6. Repeat step 3. 4 and 5 until you are close enough then release A and catch it!

How do you catch a scorpion? They keep hurting me/disappearing before i've managed to do anything
If they're anything like the tarantulas, keep your net away but have it be the last thing you held so hitting left or right on the directional buttons will take the net out. Take the net out while one is facing away from you. Hold A to hold your net at the ready and go into sneak mode and creep toward it. The scorpion/tarantula will eventually notice you, and posture aggressively at you for a few seconds, during which time do not move. When they relax, creep forward until they start posturing again, then wait. Keep going at it like this until you're within swing range with your net.

Thanks! I didn't realise you could partially hold the net out but I have just caught one!!!

I definitely learned that sneaking was the way to go. Sneak, stop, sneak, stop. Just like raqball said. That was what I was doing for the second scorpion I found...and it was working great...but, I was standing at a weird angle, and I thought I was close enough...so I swung and missed. Oops. Hahaha.

I don’t think they really did. I think it’s just that water insects that spawn and can’t be chased away came into season and that’s just one more thing the tarantulas/scorpions have to compete with.

I found three Scorpions randomly on my island last night within an hour. I feel like I have a better time finding them in NH over NL. But the islands are a mess tbh.
