Helloooo!

I was just wondering... I upload a lot of screenshots from my switch to my pc/phone by using twitter. But when downloaded the pictures are absolutely not as beautiful as on my switch itself. I know facebook and twitter are always compressing photo's from my phone so they go from absolutely stunning to "why so uglyyyyy" and I'm afraid the same thing happens with my switch screenshots/videos.

Does anyone here has expercience with both ways (so SD-card and social media to compare) and can tell me if you extract them right from your SD-card to the pc the quality will stay a lot better?

SD card is the way to go. For one thing, doing it via Facebook/Twitter takes a long time and quite complicated than to the SD Card.

All the SD card needs to do is be inserted in your computer/laptop and look for the files of your pictures/videos. That easy.

And btw, I never do the Facebook/Twitter method. So I can't help you with how the process works.

Hmmm it is actually the fastest way I think. It takes me less than a minute to upload and download and place it here. Let me test it.

Ok just have tested it. Took me 33 seconds to go to album, upload to twitter, download and upload it here :D

I think getting out your SD card and load in in the computer takes longer. And not sure but I think I have to end the game even first if my gamedownload is on the SD card.

But not thinking about that and if there's no hurry in uploading I'm still curious if the quality will be better haha

I use SD card since I have an adapter I can use with my laptop. I prefer that since I don't want to make an account just for that, and when people use twitter/facebook image links here they often break. It could be faster but yeah I can't see most unless they upload again.

But like said in the post above you you can just download the image from twitter and upload it here with the "attach files". That way the image won't dissapear ;)

The social network method is faster but SD card is definitely the way to go if you take lots of pictures. No compression issues (I had no idea that was possible) and you don't have to upload them in groups of 4.

Ah thanks this was what I wanted to know :D I don't have an SD-card reader yet but if pictures are indeed of better quality I think I will look for one!

Yeah most people don't though, lol.

I have no idea if the pictures are better quality! I thought you'd stated that aha. But I'd say it's worth it just to avoid the hassle of uploading 4 pictures at a time.

Ooooh haha no I was just hoping someone knew if they are better quality when coming straight from the SD card instead of via social media haha. Well we just wait for the answer then.

The raw files from the SD card will almost certainly be better quality than something after it's uploaded and compressed on social media. Social media compression is meant to compress the image to the smallest possible quality without immediately noticeable loss of quality or information and to be easily viewable on their site. They're not meant to be used as file hosting sites.

If you just want to take a picture and upload it to Twitter to share it with your friends, then for one or two pictures, it's fine to just upload it quickly. But if you want to take many pictures or edit those pictures, extracting from the SD card is the way to go.

I always export my Switch photos from the SD card directly to my computer. This is because it's much quicker to obtain photos compared to retrieving them from a social media account. Also, you can transfer all of them at once as opposed to posting them in smaller bulks. If you're going to share it with your friends, that's fine but if you're trying to save your pictures in a safe place, it's best to transfer them to a hard drive without the cost of compressing them.

Thanks both for your answers. Just already thought so and glad you confirmed it. Now I just have to find a way to upload them to my pc haha. Or better said "find a card reader". Too bad it just doesn't work with the USB cable.

You can buy an SD card to USB adapter which is what I have. I use the social media for my custom designs but also to get one photo or a video off quickly if I want to share it. I just delete the tweet after.

Thankfully, my computer is somewhat old enough that it has an SD card slot built in. No need for an adapter. Though I rarely find myself using it these days.

I prefer uploading through a private twitter, since I'm usually using it to upload one thing I need at the time. The four photos-max at a time is also enough for me. I actually never noticed the quality until recently but it still doesn't bother me that much because I usually end up editing it anyways. I've only ever uploaded using SD card once when my switch memory was full. Handling the micro SD card made me kind of anxious because it feels so fragile, so I'm definitely more comfortable using twitter whenever possible.

I prefer not to use sites like Facebook or a "private" Twitter. . .I'm already iffy regularly using Imgur even though you can toggle the privacy settings on that as well.

SD card all the way in this house. The quality cannot be compared directly from the SD card imo. As previously stated by others in the this thread, the aforementioned sites definitely compress the files and downgrade the "integrity" AKA quality of the images.

For quick posts to show off things I just use the twitter method. It’s the fastest and most convenient and the quality is decent enough.

When I want higher quality photos then I do the SD card in a computer thing. It’s much slower that way though so I don’t bother unless I really want high quality.

Having to turn my computer on and dig out my adapter (my laptop only fits a full size SD card and not a micro), then I still often use my phone to send/look at photos so I’d also need to transfer it to my phone. Kind of a hassle when I’m a few seconds via the twitter method it’s already saved on my phone and posted.

Hopefully one day twitter will have an option to not compress photos.

This is also exactly what I do. Just post the photo on Twitter. Download it on my phone then delete the tweet after. I don’t really mind if those photos stay on my twitter as there’s nothing overly private about them but I like to keep my Twitter clean.

When I bought my micro SD card, a regular one not the switch micro SD cards that were slightly more expensive, it came with an adapter that allows my laptop to read it. My laptop currently isn't able to read micro SD cards, it doesn't have a slot for it. But with the adapter now it can read it.

Uploading to social media is def faster esp if you only want to upload a few photos, but if you want to upload many, prob just use the laptop. No compression and you can edit pictures even more, put neat films over them, sparkles, presets, ect... There's free websites and software that you can use, like waifu (website), gimp (laptop software) and phone apps (ibis paint x as an example) that can make pictures look better or you can edit things on them. If you want to queue aestheticly pleasing photos, using a laptop will pay off, even thou it requires more time.

I use Twitter if I want to quickly show something to people since I'm mostly using my phone for Discord and forums anyway. Once a month or so I put everything I want to keep on my PC using the SD card.
