Hey there forum, I was browsing and found a thread about favourite switch themes and I own the Pokemon sword and shield lite but I'd like to get a second one for extra gaming, I'm looking at the animal crossing switch and the dark blue lite but I think I want a full switch this time so I have both options. What would be your second pick/is your second pick?

Having the full Switch is definitely nice if/when you want to play on the TV.

The best option in terms of hardware is the new OLED Model. It features a bigger and better screen than the standard Switch and AC Switch. This is only noticeable in handheld mode, so if you think you'll still be playing the Lite more for handheld, it may be unnecessary. You may find you prefer the bigger/clearer screen of the OLED for handheld mode, though.

The AC Switch looks cool, but it's primarily cosmetic. If you are a big fan of the series and want it as a sort of collector's item, it could be worth it. Otherwise, the OLED is considered the newest/best model.

Personally, I find nothing beats the convenience of a Switch Lite. Small, easy to travel with, and no confusing added features that are moot when you only play in handheld mode. I also had an issue with my OG Switch where it stopped recognizing when the joy-cons were attached (obviously a huge issue when you only play in handheld mode, though it didn't stop a bunch of -helpful- people online recommending I get a pro controller 😒).

In the end, it's all about what's easiest for you. Obviously, if you ever want to use it on the TV, you'll need to make sure you get a regular Switch or OLED (personally I considered one, but it would just be way too big to play comfortably in handheld mode, I think). But if you want a smaller, more portable one, the Lite would be my recommendation. It also might be nice to have a big regular one, and a smaller Lite to give you some options for how to play.

I play primarily in handheld mode, but since getting horrific tendonitis in my shoulders last year I struggle playing with anything but detached joycons. (Including standard controllers, including my 3DS, you name it. Repetitive strain injuries in your arms are not fun.) In that respect, the standard Switch is incredibly useful for me even if I do usually play in handheld. (Note: This is admittedly a somewhat awkward setup: Detached joycons, a third-party kickstand to stand the screen part up. Again, though, pretty much the only way I can play, and that makes the awkwardness worth it.) Plus, it means when you have to send controllers in for drift, you don’t have to send the entire Switch. (Given it’s also an issue with PS5 joysticks, it seems like there really is something about the new potentiometers that makes drift basically inevitable.) Can’t speak to OLED versus 2019-onward Switches - I upgraded to Animal Crossing from a launch Switch last year and have no interest changing again so soon. I will say that going from launch to the minor rearrangement they did in 2019 was a nice bump to battery life, which was a major factor in my decision, but a Switch Lite would have similar battery output on that front. But the docking station is also deeply CUTE, which makes me smile when I see it. That can’t really be measured the same way, but it is a nice thing.

I have a switch lite (pink) and the animal crossing switch edition. I would agree with others saying you should try a full OLED one!! An added benefit is if that dreaded joycon drift happens.. you wont have to send off your entire console like you do with the lite, you can just send the joycons and use another pair whilst waiting. You also can't temporarily fix joycon drift on your lite version, you have to send off the whole console so its a big cumbersome if that problem happens (it hasnt happened to me).

Maybe its my version, my switch lite I bought like in 2019 or something, but the battery life between the lite and the normal version is like light and day. Hours upon hours. So that is something to also note!

I have been thinking about getting a second switch for my husband to play his games cause at the moment we share 1. The memory is starting to get full with both our games on there. I know you can get another SD card to save your data? But if we were to get another I would defiantly go for the normal big sized one. I really like the feature of being able to plug it into the tv to play. I also like the big screen on it while playing in handheld mode.
