The Late Great Turt
So recently I have become very taken in by Stimulation/Sensory websites and blogs, as well as sensory and stimming toys.
Usually these things are directed towards people with autism, but as someone with very bad anxiety, depression, and ADHD they are very calming and entertaining for me as well and I've seen a lot of blogs also catering with these and other mental illnesses as well. Even without any mental illness these things would still be calming and fun so I figured I would make a thread to talk about them here!
For my birthday my mom got me some toys that I have been wanting for a while, she got my some Kinetic Sand which is very relaxing and fun to play with, even just sitting on my bed with my hand in the bowl squishing it makes me happy. Today I was having an anxiety attack because there was a fire nearby which I kind of have PTSD about since the fire last year and it really calmed me down.
I also got a giant packet of orbeez which are beyond amazing! They blew up so quickly in the water and everyone in my house have been taking turns shoving their hands and squishing them around, especially in the heat it's very therapeutic to plunge my hands and arms into the cool squishy beads. The cool moistness of them also helps calm me down a lot too.
Another things I haven't been able to get enough of lately is goo and slime! I found out a really good recipe and made tons of different colors with different glitters and confetti in them. It's so nice poking, squishing, stretching the slime. Also there are like a million different ways to make them and there are a ton of different kinds to buy too so it's pretty limitless. I also have a big tub of magnetic putty which is just amazing to play with, it seems alive!
Something else I have been obsessed with as a visual stim is paint mixing videos, where they literally just show mixing different colors of paint together, I can scroll through pages and pages of these videos and gifs and be so at ease it's amazing!
So I was wondering if anybody else here stims? And what kind of stims or sensory toys do you enjoy playing? Have they helped you with any mental illness?
